We are looking for an experienced band 5 or charge nurse to join Regency Ward as a deputy ward manager/charge nurse doing a shift pattern of 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday, supporting the ward with senior nursing leadership.

Regency is a 20 bedded, male, acute ward. We primarily work with individuals who are aged 18-65 and we are located within Mill view hospital in Hove. There are 5 wards and a place of safety within Mill View Hospital.

Main duties of the job

You will be working alongside an established and experienced multi-disciplinary team (MDT), including a motivated ward manager and experienced ward matron. The team consists of nurses, healthcare assistants, nursing associates, doctors, the occupational therapy team, a psychologist, the pharmacy team, expert by experiences and volunteers.

Job description Job responsibilities

You will be required to provide senior nursing leadership and supporting the ward manager where required. To deliver a high standard of evidence based inpatient nursing care in the designated care group in partnership with the team, the service users and where appropriate their family To act as a primary nurse in the assessment of needs and organising of care.

  • To co-ordinate shifts and provide supervision for support workers and students.
  • To work within a team of nurses and other professionals who are committed to the delivery of

a quality service.
  • To adopt a flexible approach to hours of duty, in order to meet the needs of the service over a 24-hour period.
  • To take charge of a designated clinical area and deputise as appropriate.
  • To represent the Ward Manager and/or care team, at appropriate forums and disseminate information as required.
  • To represent the clinical team perspective at multidisciplinary meetings and clinical reviews of patient care.
  • To be an active participant in the multi-disciplinary team, formulating care plans and utilising appropriate assessments.


Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Professional qualification Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
  • Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health / LD/ Adult) appropriate to the job role.
  • Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
Knowledge/Experience Essential
  • Significant post qualifying experience relevant to the care group
  • Clinical knowledge/experience
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of conducting clinical assessments including risk assessments
  • Experience of partnership working within and across various statutory and non statutory teams and agencies
