This is a new post created as part of developing a core 24 liaison psychiatry service in Leighton Hospital, Crewe.

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a high functioning Core 24 liaison psychiatry service in Central and East Cheshire. The team provides mental health services to those over 16 years old at Leighton General Hospital, Crewe.

The post holder will work alongside an existing full time consultant liaison psychiatrist in the team.

The successful applicant will work within a network of enthusiastic liaison services and multi-disciplinary teams working across Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Trust. In addition, the post-holder will have an important role to play in the development and delivery of the liaison psychiatry services across the footprint of Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Trust.

Main duties of the job

ClinicalTo contribute to the provision of a liaison psychiatry service to Central and East Cheshire. As a consultant, this particularly includes diagnosis and advice re medication and holistic management, in addition to being involved in mental health act assessments. The applicant would be expected to work with patients from the age of 16 years and upwards.

To actively liaise with Leighton and Macclesfield Hospitals, as well as colleagues in CWP, primary care, social services and voluntary sectors, to develop and deliver liaison services.

To provide clinical supervision to members of the liaison psychiatry team.

EducationAn important part of the team's work is the provision of education, training and support for the non-mental health trained general hospital staff. The post holder will be expected to take an active role in this area.

As a consultant, the post holder would be expected to contribute to the training and development of other staff within the liaison psychiatry team as well as professionals of the acute hospital.

Consultants are required to contribute to teaching meetings held weekly during the year, both in terms of chairing meetings, supporting liaison trainees presenting at meetings and giving talks themselves.

All new clinical support staff will be required to have completed or working towards the Care Certificate (CWP In-house 2 day training to be completed within 6 months of start date).

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment.You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. A small annual fee of £13 per year applies.

New entrants to the NHS will commence on the minimum of the scale stated above.

Qualifications Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
