We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Psychologist with excellent interpersonal skills, and experience in working with people in a community or hospital setting, to provide psychology-informed interventions to individuals who have experienced a Stroke. A commitment to clinical excellence is vital, and we welcome candidates who can work confidently under supervision, can follow directions, are experienced in teamwork, and are adaptable and responsive to the needs of the service. This is an excellent opportunity to develop professionally within a committed and supportive multi-disciplinary community stroke service.

Main duties of the job

Under supervision, the post holder will deliver individual and group interventions with the Occupational Therapy team. The post will be attached to the Consultant Clinical Psychologist who will provide leadership, management, supervision, and clinical oversight. Knowledge of and experience in working clinically in Stroke services is desirable. Experience in using therapeutic interventions, in particular CBT and ACT, and psychological assessment would be of advantage. The post holder will also be involved in supporting service evaluations, audits, and projects. You will be expected to contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings and other meetings as appropriate.

The post requires attention to detail, enthusiasm, flexibility, and resilience to work with a developing service. The ability to communicate effectively and build rapport and effective relationships at all levels is essential. The post holder will ideally have worked in the NHS previously.

About us

There are regular opportunities to link in with other psychology services and assistant psychologists across Powys.

The post holder will be expected to travel to various locations across Powys to deliver interventions therefore a full driving license is essential.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

This is a fixed-term post until March 2023.

Interviews will be held in Bronllys Hospital and the dates are yet to be confirmed.

  • Previous employment or voluntary or research work with individuals with psychological and/or other difficulties
Desirable
  • Specific experience of working with adults with mental health conditions and/or physical health conditions
English Essential
  • Upper Second or First-Class Honours degree in Psychology Eligibility for Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
  • Ability to communicate clearly and with sensitivity - verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of a range of computer packages e.g.: PowerPoint, Excel, SPSS, Word for Windows, Access, etc.
  • Evidence of undertaking presentation to groups
  • High level communication skills (verbal and written)
  • IT skills in the use of databases . Experience of data analysis
  • Research, presentation and reporting skills
  • Ability to accept and use supervision effectively
