These posts are subject to National NHS T&Cs, paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during nights, weekends and bank holidays and we offer a Golden Hello payment of £2,740 to new starters with the Trust in this role.

The Trust provides a large range and diversity of adult secure services in the East Midlands as well as secure services in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw, Wathwood Hospital. The Division is in a unique position of providing its services across the full care pathway for several patient groups requiring forensic care. It is therefore part of two New Care Model programmes that aim to provide better support in the community and reduce reliance on secure beds to improve outcomes for service users and their families. The portfolio of High, Medium and Low Secure services are grouped as follows and include:

Services are delivered from a number of sites including:

High Secure inpatient beds at Rampton Hospital;

Medium Secure inpatient beds at Arnold Lodge & Wathwood Hospital

Low Secure inpatient beds at The Wells Road Centre

Community Forensic Services

Integrated Offender Health Services

Liaison with the Criminal Justice System in Nottinghamshire

Main duties of the job

The Offender Health Directorate is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK. The Directorate provide physical, mental health and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands, Lincolnshire & Leicestershire.

We also offer services within the Personality Disorder Pathway, including Therapeutic Communities (within prisons), Community and Prison Personality Disorder services and specialist Veteran Services.

Healthcare at HMP Lowdham Grange gives you the opportunity to make this difference to a group of people who traditionally have had high psychiatric and social morbidity but have also faced multiple barriers to accessing appropriate healthcare.

Working at HMP Lowdham Grange you will be part of a high motivated and skilled team who provide integrated healthcare (physical healthcare, mental health and ) to around 900 men.

The mental health team at HMP Lowdham Grange consists of Psychiatrists, Band 6 mental health nurses, IDD nurse, Psychologist, PWP, well-being co-ordinator, HCA, occupational therapist and assistant psychologists.

The role of the Senior Mental Health Nurse is to work within a stepped care pathway, conducting assessments, responding to crisis situations, conducting brief therapeutic interventions and /or case management for prisoners with a wide range of mental health issues, including common mental health problems, Psychotic disorders, Personality Disorder and Self-harm Behaviours and administering medications. As this is an Integrated Team supporting other pathways at times of need.

Applicants would also be participating in multi-disciplinary reviews, risk assessment. This is a unique opportunity to develop wide ranging knowledge and experience and develop professional autonomy.

Applicants would be expected to engage in individual and group supervision and reflective practice.

The post is based at HMP Lowdham Grange, the Trust provides healthcare in a number of prisons across the East Midlands and there will be opportunities for cross site working and peer support.

You must be a Registered Mental Health Nurse with proven post registration experience in delivery all a wide range of Mental Health care and have knowledge of CPA and Clinical Risk Assessment.

The Offender Health Directorate provides healthcare to 8 Prisons, in the counties of Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. As such you are part of a large peer group of 400+ healthcare professionals with access to appropriate peer support, supervision and excellent opportunities for learning and development. HMP Lowdham Grange is also a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrist Quality Network.

Person Specification
Knowledge
Essential
  • CPA systems and processes
  • An understanding of deliberate self-harm.
  • An understanding of Personality Disorders.

Desirable
  • Local and National strategies including issues relevant to the Immigration Estate
  • Knowledge and/or experience of the ACCT process

Skills
Essential
  • IT skills including Word, Excel and electronic patient record systems
  • Experience in child and adult safeguarding procedures

Experience
Essential
  • A genuine interest in working with this client group and in Offender Mental Health related issues
  • Experience of working in Mental Health Services.
  • Experience of prioritising patients with a range of mental health issues.
  • Experience of working effectively within a MDT/interagency working
  • Effective case management/care planning skills.
  • Supervision and appraisal of staff

Desirable
  • Forensic and/ or prison/or criminal justice nursing experience.
  • Previous experience working within an Immigration setting
