A fantastic opportunity has arisen within our Older Adult Mental Health Service to work with patients with functional and organic mental health needs and their carers.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, and motivated OT with experience working in a community mental health-based setting and formulating creative and imaginative treatment plans for patients.

You will be part of an integrated team consisting of one other Occupational Therapist, Consultant Psychiatrists, Junior Medics, Mental Health Nurses, a Clinical Psychologist, Support Workers, an Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Admin staff. You will also be supported by the Team Manager who offers a robust supervision and appraisal process.

The core working hours for our team are Monday to Friday 9-5 and we are willing to consider full time/ part time hours working with a minimum of 30 hours required to fulfil the role.

Main duties of the job

You will have a caseload of patients with functional and organic mental health conditions who you will manage from assessment to discharge.

Attend MDT meetings weekly to discuss allocations and complex cases

You will be part of an integrated team consisting of one other Occupational Therapist, Consultant Psychiatrists, Junior Medics, Mental Health Nurses, a Clinical Psychologist, Support Workers, an Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Admin staff. You will also be supported by the Team Manager who offers a robust supervision and appraisal process.

You will develop the skills to undertake holistic assessment of patients and develop individual care plans and risk assessments with the patient.

The Older Adult Mental Health service is comprised of several specialist teams, you will work with our Inpatient wards and Hospital at Home Team to meet the needs of more acutely unwell patients.

Job description Job responsibilities

  • Act as a role model to colleagues, always seeking to maintain the highest standards of professionalism
  • Work as part of the Multidisciplinary team across a range of clinical pathways
  • Manage a caseload of patients with complex needs, using evidence based / patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • Work with patients to identify therapeutic goals as part of the overall recovery focussed care plan, using specialist mental health and occupational therapy assessment tools
  • Plan and implement patient centred individual and/or group interventions using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • Maintain robust communication with patients, carers and other local agencies. Maintain accurate timely clinical records.
  • Support patients and carers to achieve agreed outcomes and goals utilising the recovery model.
  • Provide leadership for junior staff, through supervision and appraisal.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Diploma/degree in OT with HCPC Registration
  • Postgraduate level training/experience relevant to mental health

  • Significant post registration experience including experience within mental health
  • Minimum 1 year within / related specialty
  • Extensive clinical experience including individual and group work

  • Able to meet the travel requirements of the role
