Ward Clinical Lead

Western Community Hospital

Are you an aspiring specialist clinical practitioner looking to enhance your skill, experience, and contribute to a forward thinking and dynamic team.

Southampton Older Persons Mental Health Services are looking for a Clinical Lead to join our team on the Older Adults Wards based at the Western Community Hospital. Berrywood Ward specialises in the assessment and treatment of patients with functional mental illness and Beaulieu specialises in the assessment and treatment of Organic patients.

This is a clinically driven post and so you will be either working towards an ACP qualification at Masters Degree Level, covering the four pillars of advanced practice (clinical practice, leadership and management, research, education), or you will be supported to do this.

There are a wide range of multi-disciplinary professionals working collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for our patients. You will receive excellent support from the ward consultant, senior medics, and senior leadership team to support you through your training pathway. This is a full time role and you will be expected to work across the shift pattern, although flexible working requests will be considered.

You will provide the clinical leadership for the ward team, working closely with the ward manager and matron.

You will be supporting the consultant on the ward and will be required to undertake clinical assessment including history taking and physical examination to enable you to plan care and formulate treatment plans which may include prescribing. You will demonstrate safe clinical decision making and expert care.

You will have the ability to speak confidently to families and other professionals and be an integral part of the wider teaching resource of clinical staff within the inpatient setting.

You will be passionate about developing and delivering high quality care to the older person with mental health problems and will contribute to the development of services in this area.

We would welcome applications from individuals from any professional background who can demonstrate fulfilment of the Job description and person specification. Experience of mental health and in particular OPMH is essential and this will need to be demonstrated in the application and at interview.

Please contact Katy Whiting, Southampton OPMH Matron on katy.whiting@southernhealth.nhs.uk or 07769725250

Alternatively please contact Sharon Harwood, Head of Nursing for OPMH on sharon.harwood@southernhealth.nhs.uk or 07775602417
