We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic occupational therapist. You will be an experienced team player who is creative and innovative in your approach. As an occupational therapist and care co-ordinator you will use your professional and personal skills to help people identify and come to terms with their first episode of psychosis and support them on their path to recovery. Within EIIP the occupational therapy team is developing innovative ways of delivering occupationally focussed interventions to support people in their recovery. This post will offer opportunities to further develop your occupational therapy skills and your experience in bio-psychosocial interventions.

This is also an excellent opportunity to come and be part of the dynamic SABP occupational therapy service. We use Model of Human Occupation to guide practice and as a Trust we are particularly focusing on embedding occupational science and neuroscience into our practice, along with developing leadership skills at every level.

The occupational therapy leadership team is committed to an extensive, co-ordinated CPD programme including a robust supervision structure, care group meetings, Trust wide and core competence training and an annual conference. Staff are valued for their expertise in occupationally focussed interventions and specialist group therapy.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE

1. To select, undertake, analyse and interpret comprehensive standardised and non-standardised assessments, including functional and environmental factors informed by a specialist knowledge of the clinical area.

2. To devise person-centred treatment plans with clear outcomes using an appropriate range of Occupational Therapy techniques to ensure that the individual’s full potential is developed or maintained.

3. To communicate effectively to the multi-disciplinary team to promote client/patient safety and the management of risk.

4. To provide an effective high quality service to client/patients and carers.

5. To provide supervision and teaching of other staff in the speciality.

6. To provide fieldwork education for student Occupational Therapists.

7. To demonstrate leadership skills and contribute to service development and monitoring standards of practice.

8. To undertake evidence based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and to lead where appropriate in departmental evaluation/research.

9. To be responsible as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant specialist clinical workload.

10. To hold and manage a caseload as care coordinator , working within the EIIP model and CPA framework

Job description Job responsibilities

Clinical:

• To demonstrate expertise and specialist occupational therapy skills in areas such as occupational identity and competency, occupational engagement, environmental adaptation, volition, development and maintenance of occupational skills.

• To provide high quality occupational therapy assessments for people who access the service, adapting the approach as and when needed.

• To provide evidence based and outcome measured occupational therapy interventions (individual and group), as outlined in the occupational therapy pathway.

• To use effective clinical reasoning and formulation skills to devise person-centred occupational therapy care plans, alongside people who access services and their carers/supporters/family members (where appropriate).

• To evaluate the effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions.

• To have excellent time management skills and be able to independently manage occupational therapy referrals, triages and own caseload.

• To act as the lead professional or care coordinator when delivering occupational therapy interventions to people who access services, as appropriate.

• To utilise therapeutic use of self skills when providing occupational therapy interventions.

• To understand group theory and system dynamics and how these impact on delivering services.

• To contribute to the rapid response function within the service.

• To complete New Patient Assessments for people referred to the service.

• To be the lead professional when delivering generic work, such as risk management, referring to specialist services, stabilisation, low intensity interventions, to people who access services with have complex needs.

• To complete comprehensive risk assessment and management plans, raising safeguarding concerns in line with Trust policy.

• To practice within the Positive Risk-Taking Framework.

• To keep up to date with current evidence-based practice, research and National guidelines within your clinical area.

• To communicate complex and challenging issues in an effective and compassionate way with people who access services, carers/family members/supporters, other clinicians and agencies/services.

• To effectively manage a caseload with people who have complex needs.

• To be compassionate, inclusive and understanding of the needs of people who access services, carers/supporter/family members.

• To work in partnership with other community services and providers.

Person Specification Experience Essential
  • Minimum 2 years post graduate experience in Occupational Therapy.
  • Post qualifying experience of mental health.
Desirable
  • Experience of research and audit.
  • Experience of carrying out risk assessment and decision making to ensure own safety and that of others.
Qualifications Essential
  • Possess BSc Hons. or Diploma in Occupational Therapy or Pre registration Ma qualification or equivalent
  • Occupational Therapy professional qualification- HCPC
Desirable
  • Specialist training relevant to speciality (eg: AMPs, S.I.)
  • Clinical supervision training
  • Fieldwork supervisor qualification
