The Offender Health Directorate gives you this opportunity to make this difference to a group of people who traditionally have had complex histories and not always had access to care.

As Part of the Mental Health at at HMP Lincoln you will work with a mix of professionals who help deliver the mental health provision to these men.

Working as part of the Bank provision of qualified registrants, you will be part of a high quality and motivated team who provide integrated healthcare (physical healthcare, mental health and substance misuse services). Our services include elements of traditional primary care combined with elements of secondary Care Delivery. This is an ideal opportunity to try something new or add new prisons to your experience if you are already experienced in Health and Justice Settings.

Main duties of the job

If you are an outstanding Mental Health Nurse who is passionate about providing high quality care for a vulnerable patient group then we want to hear from you as we have an opportunities to become a part of our bank provision to expand integrated healthcare services to the prisoners that we cater for.

The Directorate provides healthcare to seven Prisons .

Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. As such you are part of a large peer group of 400+ healthcare professionals with access to appropriate peer support, supervision and excellent opportunities for learning and development.

Job responsibilities

Provide patients with support, advocating to encourage empowerment, decision making and personal responsibilities and the promotion of social inclusion within the prison community. Ability to assess and respond to patients at risk of suicide, self harm or harm to others, using the appropriate clinical intervention, prison service ACCT and safeguarding procedures. Respect service users' individuality and maintain their privacy and dignity within the constraints of the custodial environment. Communicate effectively with all relevant stakeholders using all available and appropriate methods including information and technology systems, observing information sharing protocols including confidentiality.

Support service users to address issues which affect their health, behaviour and social welfare. Ensures the effective and efficient use of resources within their own sphere of responsibility. Prioritises own workload based on flexible principles.

Qualifications
Essential
  • First level registered nurse, Mental Health
  • Post registration qualification and evidence of continuing professional development in relevant area.

Desirable
  • Independent non medical prescriber
  • Mentor and Assessor

Experience
Essential
  • Experience of working within secondary mental health areas
  • Experience of prioritising patients with a range of mental health issues
  • Experience of supervising and appraising staff
  • Experience of working with other organisations

Desirable
  • Experience of working in criminal justice setting
  • Experience of close working relationships with a variety of statutory agencies and other external organisations.

Knowledge

  • Awareness of the wider NHS Modernisation Agenda
