The post holder will be clinically responsible to the CDAT Consultants, managerially responsible to Dr Mary Self, Clinical Group Service Director for Mental Health Directorate and professionally responsible to Mr Dom Hurford, Medical Director.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to
  • Provide senior clinical input to the assessment and management of patients referred to the service.
  • Work with other members of the clinical team to review referred patients and advise on management.
  • Provide day to day clinical support to the CT3 trainee doctor.
  • Participate in and contribute to regular team meetings.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for organising their professional day and for ensuring that they can be contacted at all times during working hours.

The post holder will be encouraged to gain and maintain approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 as soon as possible after appointment (if not already approved); he or she will also be encouraged to gain approval as an Approved Clinician. He or she will be required to fulfil responsibilities under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • oFull GMC Registration
  • oMBBS/MBBS or equivalent
  • oEligible to apply for s12 (2) approval
  • oAdditional relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • oWelsh Approved Clinician approval.
  • oS.12(2) approval
Experience Essential
  • oComprehensive training and experience in psychiatry
  • o3 years' experience to CT3 level.
  • oExperience in addictions psychiatry
  • oMore than 3 years' experience to CT3 or higher level in a relevant specialty
Skills Essential
  • oCompetence in current assessment and treatment.
  • oCompetence in risk assessment and management.
  • oAbility to practice independently
  • oComputing skills.
  • oUnderstanding of relevant clinical, legal and policy issues
Personal Qualities Essential
  • oProven commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working
  • oCapacity to work under pressure and respond flexibly to varying demands
  • oEvidence of clinical leadership.
