The Children's Physiotherapy team aims to deliver a specialist Physiotherapy Service consistent with professional standards offering a wide range of clinical assessments, providing interventions which are determined by specialist care pathways and offering direct support to children young people, their families, education, health and social care colleagues. We are based in the North of the county and the post holder will work within a specified Northamptonshire locality as well as being required to work flexibly across the county as needed to meet service demands.

The post holder will be working in an integrated skill mix team as well as undertaking joint working where appropriate with Occupational Therapists, Orthotists, liaising with other Children's Specialist Services as well as other professionals within health, education and social care.

Providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment to children and young people aged 0-19.

Working a variety of settings including: acute ward, community, special schools and outpatients clinics.

The caseload is varied with a range of conditions including but not exclusive to: MSK, developmental delay, gait anomalies, neurology, neuromuscular and respiratory.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will independently manage a caseload of complex cases within the Children's Physiotherapy Service treating in a variety of settings including special schools, nurseries, mainstream schools, outpatient setting as well as supporting the service level agreement to be delivered to Skylark ward using evidence based/service user centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. They will work with service users and their advocates to identify Therapy goals as part of the overall care plan.

The post holder will use well developed clinical reasoning to plan and implement goals identified through assessment process, monitoring, evaluating and modifying for service users in order to measure progress, adjust care plans and ensure effectiveness. They will be responsible for the supervision and delegation of duties to junior therapy team members.

The post holder will identify and select, with the client and their carers, the most appropriate intervention options which balance the complex interaction of risk, safety, client choice, independence, areas of conflict, eligibility for services and cost effectiveness. They will be involved with the continuing development of the team, participating in the supervision and appraisal process, supporting the professional development of team members and undertaking the role of clinical educator where appropriate.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • oRegistered as a Physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professional Council
  • oValid UK driving license, access to vehicle and able to drive to different locations within working hours is essential
  • oDocumented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Experience Essential
  • oExperience in participating in audits
  • oExcellent verbal and written communication skills
Desirable
  • oExperience in specialist area would be desirable
  • oLeadership experience would be desirable
  • oAbility to work independently and as part of a team and organize a varied workload, meeting competing demands and priorities on a daily basis
