Essex Parent Infant Mental Health Service - Together With Baby - is looking to recruit a Parent Infant Therapist to join the team to support families living in Mid Locality of Essex (Chelmsford, Maldon and Braintree). The service offers highly specialised assessment and intervention to parents and their infants, offering support and guidance to improving and strengthening the Parent Infant relationship. The service covers Essex with a mix of urban and rural challenges utilising a small team of psychologists, psychotherapists and nurses. This post will be 3 days (0.6wte) and will offer a blended approach of both virtual working and home visiting. Whilst the post is based in the Mid area (team base is in Maldon) there will be expectations to work with families across the Essex area using virtual platforms. We welcome applications from people who are interested in this area and have therapeutic experience but not with this client group as we provide excellent training and supervision.

Main duties of the job

Transition to Parenthood can be a challenging time and for some parents this brings change and difficulty impacting on the emerging relationship between the parent and their infant. Together With Baby works closely with early years colleagues, liaising with maternity, health visiting and perinatal services as well adult mental health services. Together with Baby provides consultation, therapeutic assessment and interventions to understand the challenges families are facing and how this impacts on the emerging relationship and the development of the infant. The service uses a range of approaches such as Video Interaction Guidance, Circle of Security as well as Parent Infant Psychotherapy. This post can be a development post with specialist training provided. We are looking for an engaging, enthusiastic candidate whohas solid experience working therapeutically with families and their young children, preferable with children under 2 years old. The service works closely with Early Years services and organisations and this role will require strong interpersonal and networking skills to ensure the service resource is used creatively and in conjunction with other service offers.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology as accredited by the HCPC and BPS Or
  • Allied Health Professional with registration to professional bodies such as HCPC , NMC with psychotherapeutic accreditation e.g. BAC
  • Practising Psychotherapist who is fully qualified registered member of the relevant accrediting body e.g. UKCP, ACP, BPC or BACP
  • post core training in infant mental health
Experience Essential
  • experience of working with families with children under 5
  • Experience of working in the NHS
