Job Title: Band 5/6 Occupational Therapist

Salary band: Band 5/6

Hours: 37.5 hrs. Permanent.

Location: Inpatient Therapy Team Lymington Hospital

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust (SHFT) Integrated Therapy Team of Occupational and Physio Therapists (OT, PT) based at Lymington Hospital. We are happy to consider interviewing developing band 5’s with relevant experience.

The team is based within Lymington New Forest Hospital covering 58 beds across the inpatient Medical Assessment Unit (MAU), two medical wards and a rehab ward. We work Monday – Friday including Bank holidays, these have skeleton staffing to support MAU. We work closely with the discharge team regarding bed flow and support out into the community as required. The multi-disciplinary team includes consultants, junior doctors, nurses, social workers, OT and PT staff. We have both student PT/OT and apprentice OT’s as part of our teams development. There is free parking for NHS staff on site at Lymington.

The aim of the inpatient therapy services is to work within the MDT to provide rehab and/or support for individuals to return home. We support patients to regain their confidence and strength, relearn skills or find new ways of doing everyday activities. We assist in assessing care needs from functional assessments including equipment provision. Home and access visits are key to achieve this.

The occupational therapy aspect within inpatients is integral in holistic assessment, identifying individual needs and supporting future management at home (equipment/care/reablement) or placement following a medical hospital admission. In addition to therapy intervention, it is essential to support the patients, their families, and their carers to access the right care, in the right place, at the right time. Experience in older persons care, medical, community and discharge planning would be beneficial for the post holder. As a skilled professional, prioritising dynamic cases daily which often present with complex frailty and social issues will be your forte!

Southern Health Foundation Trust is committed to continued professional development and promoting evidence-based practice to ensure a high standard of care throughout services. We have a reputation for excellence in professional development through a wide range of internal courses and other CPD opportunities. Within this role, as part of your development, there will also be opportunities to spend time at our sister site at Forest Court where we provide a therapy solution for Hampshire County Council.

We work closely with our local higher education organisations taking students from University of Southampton, Winchester and further afield. The Therapy Team is part of a strong allied health professional workforce in The New Forest, always exploring new ways of working, growing our own by developing within, in addition to increasing our teams externally.
