An exciting opportunity has arisen for Registered Mental Health Nurses to join Pleasley Ward at the Hartington Unit based at the Royal Hospital, Calow.

The successful candidates will be part of a friendly, forward thinking multi-disciplinary team which provides care for working age and older adults of mixed genders suffering with acute mental illness.

We aim to provide a comprehensive, multi professional service that continues to improve and develop services for all ages that promotes recovery and wellbeing in an in-patient setting.

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will have a knowledge of mental illness and disorders, risk assessment and safety planning, effective care planning and the CPA process.

You will work as a named nurse for individual patients as part of an MDT approach to care.

The successful candidates can expect to work within a lively and committed team which includes Nurses, Medics and Ward Based OT with support from Psychology, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy and Recreation Workers.

This is a good development opportunity for a B5 nurse or newly qualified nurse to gain experience within a busy acute ward.

For newly qualified nurses we offer a comprehensive Preceptorship Programme.

For experienced Band 5 Nurses the Trust has Developed a B5-B6 Competency Framework to support continued professional Development and progression towards a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse position on the ward.

To support continued professional development, the successful candidates will receive regular supervision both Management and Clinical from senior colleagues and the Ward Manager to support your practice and development.

Due to the pace and complexities of working on a busy acute ward, there is also a weekly reflective practice session for the team, facilitated by our Psychologist and a comprehensive Health and Well-being offer from the Trust.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Nurse - mental health
  • Degree/ Diploma in Nursing or equivalent experience
  • Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor qualification
  • Evidence of an up to date personal development plan or Professional Portfolio
Skills Essential
  • Demonstrate knowledge and developing expertise of CPA / Risk Assessment and Management skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop practice around best available information.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the value of Clinical and Managerial Supervision within an effective model.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of work-based legislation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of professional accountability and codes of conduct and their application in practice.
  • Knowledge or experience of working with individuals who present with challenging behaviours.
