Job Details

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Principal Clinical Psychologist to join the Norfolk and Waveney Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service.

The successful candidate will be joining the service at an exciting time, as we develop the Norfolk and Waveney At-Risk Mental States (ARMS) service. This service will sit under the Norfolk and Waveney EIP service and involves a planned increase in psychological resource, including the advertised post, an Assistant Psychologist and four trainee psychological therapists. In addition to working with people with ARMS and psychosis and their family members/carers, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in the design and development of the ARMS service alongside an existing Principal Clinical Psychologist.

The Norfolk and Waveney EIP service is made up of four teams, with bases in Norwich (North and South teams), Great Yarmouth and Waveney (East team) and King's Lynn (West team). The new ARMS service will also follow this model. The successful candidate will work clinically in one of the team bases (location to be discussed and agreed during the recruitment process). The post will also involve holding psychology leadership responsibility across the ARMS and EIP services, alongside the existing Principal Clinical Psychologist.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will provide psychological assessment and treatment for people with ARMS and psychosis and their family members/carers. Prior training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis and Bipolar (CBT PB) is preferred, but not essential.

Health Education England (HEE) are currently commissioning post-graduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis and Bipolar (CBT PB) and if required, successful candidates will be able to access one-year top up (PGCert) training at University College London (UCL) from January 2023. Please see attached documentation for further information about this course. Behavioural Family Therapy (BFT) training will also be offered in house.

About us

This is a substantive post available at full-time hours. Part-time hours will also be considered. The number of contracted hours will be discussed and agreed with interested candidates during recruitment. Flexible working arrangements and hybrid working are available in line with Trust policy, which will enable the successful candidate to work a preferred working pattern, both at home and in the office (depending on service needs).

Norfolk and Waveney EIP has undergone significant expansion over the last six years following funding from NHS England for the Access and Waiting Time Standard. The service are currently working towards national accreditation with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and hope to be a flagship service for the Trust. Staff retention in the service is excellent and the core staff group includes several roles, including administration assistants, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, vocational workers, support workers and peer support workers. The Norfolk and Waveney EIP service currently has a Principal Clinical Psychologist, three Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologists, six psychological therapists and four assistant psychologists.

Job description
Job responsibilities

The post holder will form an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team and they will be responsible for team formulation, supervision and consultation, training and clinical leadership. Job planning will be completed with the successful candidate to ensure that they work safely and competently in line with professional guidelines. Regular individual and peer supervision and opportunities for Continued Professional Development (CPD) will be provided.

We are a research active service with regular opportunities to get involved in national and local projects. The service has links with the University of East Anglia (UEA) Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology and regularly offers placements to trainee clinical psychologists. A psychosis special interest research group has recently been set up with research colleagues from the UEA and the successful candidate will be able to be involved in this if interested.

A provisional interview date has been scheduled for Friday 14th October 2022. Interviews will be held via Microsoft Teams and a link will be sent to shortlisted candidates prior to the interview date. Please note that the interview date is subject to change following closure of the advert.

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of specialist mental health services for the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, serving a population of 1.6 million people. We are a large organisation covering a wide geographical area divided into ‘Care Groups'. There are also Care Groups supporting children, family and young people’s services, and specialist services, including Forensic mental health services.

Each Care Group has its own Leadership team, with the aim of supporting clinically led decision making locally, to support the needs of people accessing services.

We have inpatient facilities across both counties with smaller bases in rural locations. Many of the Trust’s services are offered in the community, enabling people accessing services to receive the support they need in an environment familiar to them.

At NSFT we believe in recovery and wellbeing, and understand the importance of good physical health, maintaining relationships and achieving a balance between treatments and continuing an active life.

The people in our care, families and carers are at the centre of all aspects of all we do and are vital in helping shape and support our service strategy. Our strategy supports and enables people with mental health problems to live a fulfilling life and make their personal recovery journey.
