Main duties of the job

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will work as an autonomous clinician, providing specialist assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction. You will hold supervisory responsibility for others, and take a leadership role in specific projects.

An integral part of this role will be supporting student education within the team.

Service line:Mental Health Adults Acute - Male

Working hours: 40 per week

Summary of the site:
  • Acute Working Age Adults (Male)
  • MDT Consultant Psychiatrist, Associate doctor, Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Activity Coordinators, Active Life Coaches
  • 17 patients on ward
  • Head OT
  • Small fully collaborative site, working in a unique countryside setting being both close to the coast and areas of outstanding natural beauty

We have the exciting opportunity for Band 6 OT. Based on our acute, working age male mental health wards here at Taunton, where you will afford our patients the opportunity to assess, support and offer brief evidence based interventions based on specific needs of each individual. You will be an integral part of the MDT providing an evidence based therapeutic programme through a range of activities both within the hospital and in the community, whilst supporting the Head OT in managing the small team and with delegated tasks We use a variety of different media to support all patients in their mental health journey and follow an evidenced based OT service line model of care. We are very fortunate to have our hospital based in wonderful peaceful countryside with over 12 acres of grounds in the hospital which we have a growing back to health project in this wonderful setting.

You will be part of a small occupational therapy team, with Band 5 OTs, OTAS and ACs as well as Active Life Coaches. The emphasis we place is on fully on supporting your development, whilst developing the junior members of the team through effective supervision and weekly catch up meetings. You will receive thorough and comprehensive induction programme, weekly and monthly check-ins and both clinical and managerial supervisions. At Cygnet we offer a number of development opportunities within the organisation such as clinical development (MOHO and VdTMoCA) and well as managerial and clinical development (leadership pathways). We also afford you the opportunity to have exposure to other service lines

Occupational Therapy Directorate

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.

Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.

We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.

Requirements:
