A Good environment overall for mums and babies! The staff made me feel welcome and comfortable - everyone was very approachable and helpful. Staff fantastic with baby

Do you want to join our specialist team? We are looking to consolidate and expand the experience within our team which currently consists of nursery nurses, registered mental health nurses, therapists, midwives, learning disability nurses and health visitors, to name a few.

Main duties of the job

The Kingfisher Mother & Baby Unit is 1 of 21 specialist inpatient units in the UK and is an acute mental health inpatient unit. Our passionate team work a pattern of shifts in order to provide 24 hour care.

Our 8 bedded family centred unit opened in January 2019 to provide interventions to women with moderate to severe mental health conditions from 3rd trimester, up to 12 months post-natal. The reason this provision of care is so unique is that the mothers are offered assessment and treatment of their mental health whilst being supported to meet the care needs of their baby and nurture the parent infant relationship. It is widely recognised that keeping mother and baby together improves outcomes for both, mother and infants mental health. Our team is privileged to support women, their babies and the wider family through this life changing and challenging experience. The care delivered within the mother and baby unit is aimed at improving the outcomes of future generations. Nationally the Perinatal specialty continues to grow in understanding our patients' needs, now that we have moved some way through the pandemic the landscape of Perinatal care is changing.

Diane Hull - NSNHSFT

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of specialist mental health services for the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, serving a population of 1.6 million people. We are a large organisation covering a wide geographical area divided into ‘Care Groups'. There are also Care Groups supporting children, family and young people’s services, and specialist services, including Forensic mental health services.

Each Care Group has its own Leadership team, with the aim of supporting clinically led decision making locally, to support the needs of people accessing services.

We have inpatient facilities across both counties with smaller bases in rural locations. Many of the Trust’s services are offered in the community, enabling people accessing services to receive the support they need in an environment familiar to them.

At NSFT we believe in recovery and wellbeing, and understand the importance of good physical health, maintaining relationships and achieving a balance between treatments and continuing an active life.

The people in our care, families and carers are at the centre of all aspects of all we do and are vital in helping shape and support our service strategy. Our strategy supports and enables people with mental health problems to live a fulfilling life and make their personal recovery journey.

Norfolk and Suffolk, in the East of England are some of the safest places to live in the UK, with low crime rates making it a community to be proud of. Housing prices are frequently cited as a reason to move here, as you get an incredible amount for your money compared with other major UK cities.
