Mental Health Liaison consists of an integrated multi-disciplinary team of liaison mental health practitioners who provide a service to those aged 16 plus in the acute hospital emergency department or on the wards. The team is skilled in carrying out mental health assessments, planning effective and timely discharge and ensuring correct signposting or onward referral.

As a clinician working within the service you will be expected to work with a wide range of people presenting with mental health needs in A&E or on a ward. You will be able to confidently assess risk and formulate discharge plans. You will also be working closely with hospital clinicians and managers to ensure timely assessment and interventions. Your decision-making, communication and negotiation skills will need to be well-developed as you will be the interface between the general hospital and mental health services

As a learning area we provide placements for student nurses, medical students, trainee doctors and clinical psychologists. An expectation of all Liaison team members is the ability to provide teaching and training for general hospital staff.

Liaison Mental Health can be challenging but also very rewarding. As a successful applicant you will be joining an established and supportive team which is developing the level of service provision.

1 x fixed term band 6 nurse positions to cover maternity leave (full-time)

1.4 x Permanent band 6 nurse position (Full Time / Part Time)

The Liaison Mental health team is based at the Princess Royal Hospital The team provides a service from 7:45 am until 2am seven days a week with a possibility of 24 hour cover in the future.
