Are you a dietitian who has the skills and passion to improve service for Older People with mental health needs?

The Older People and Frailty Division has an exciting new role for a Band 6 dietitian to support the development of our Multi-Disciplinary Team Approach to older adults within our Acute Mental Health and Specialist Dementia Pathway. In this role you will play an active role in supporting the provision of specialist treatment/intervention for patients who are older adults with complex mental health, dementia combined with frailty and physical health care needs.

About the Post
The Dietetic work will vary between a direct caseload, possibly group work and providing indirect support and advice to teams. The clinical work would include delivering nutrition support, weight management and a food first approach. The post holder will provide a full Dietetic assessment of a clients’ needs, resulting in an individualised dietetic plan for clients and work in close collaboration with the clinical teams, Speech and Language Team and wider multi-disciplinary team to provide specialist advice on feeding regimes.

Candidates should be a Registered Dietitian, preferably with some experience of working in a mental health setting, with excellent communication and IT skills. A working knowledge of the needs of older adults and frailty would be beneficial to the post.

We have a robust clinical supervision structures and you would have opportunities to receive formal and informal training. You will receive regular clinical supervision, with a strong emphasis placed on Continued Professional Development.

We are looking for a Specialist Dietitian with:
• A degree / postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Dietetics, registration with HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) and membership of the BDA (British Dietetic Association)
• Experience in the field of mental health evidenced by sound clinical knowledge
• Experience of working in inpatient/acute settings would also be beneficial
• An understanding of older adults and frailty needs
• Excellent communication / time management skills
• Enthusiasm, motivation and passion

The Older People and Frailty Division provides assessment and support for older people who have memory impairment or mental health issues. We provide support across a range of services, including memory assessment and support, mental health, intensive home treatment, community and inpatient services. We have proven expertise; providing the highest level of care for patients who are looking for the best treatment and support.
