Nottinghamshire Healthcare's Forensic division comprises of Rampton, Arnold Lodge, Wathwood and Wells Road Centre.The East Midlands Forensic Mental Health Service, Arnold Lodge, based in Central Leicester is a 102 bedded Medium Secure Hospital providing in-patient Forensic Psychiatric Services for adults with Mental Disorder and a history of offending behaviour aged 18 and above.We provide the highest standards of evidence-based therapeutic care, including vocational and recreational opportunities.Clinical knowledge and expertise ensure we consistently deliver a quality service to all patients across 3 care streams: MaleMental Illness, Personality Disorder and Women's Service. Within a modern purpose built hospital which is compliant with National Medium Secure Standards.We provide high quality nursing care whilst fostering hope, empowerment and choice. Main duties of the job

We are looking for applicants who can evidence they are passionate about providing high quality care to all our patients, demonstrate excellent leadership and management skills at both a ward and service level.

This is a pivotal role within the Arnold Lodge management structure, working as ward lead, and providing 24 hours Senior Nurse Cover via an On Call system.Accountable for service delivery and development with delegated responsibility for ward budget.

To lead and manage a ward team ensuring the effective delivery of high quality patient care, providing professional knowledge, leadership, and managerial skills.

The role requires a qualified, experienced RMN, skilled in the management and leadership of a nursing team with in a Medium Secure Mental Health Service.

Delegated budgetary responsibility for the ward, managing both physical and human resources to ensure the highest standards of care are provided.

Responsible for developing their staff teams, whilst ensuring local and trust wide policies and processes are adhered to.

Develop and maintain robust systems of clinical and managerial supervision for staff team.

Job responsibilities

To participate fully as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in initiating, implementing and evaluating policies and procedures and clinical practice against agreed criteria.The Ward Manager has responsibility for / to

Providing 24 hour Senior Nurse on call cover for Arnold Lodge on a rostered on-call basis.The management of a delegated Ward budget. Ensuring that staff assess patients, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, providing specialist advice and maintaining associated records. Ensure the highest standards of clinical care is provided to patients Performance managing a Wards compliment of Nurses, both qualified and unqualified. Acting as investigating officer with regard to any complaints, disciplinary proceedings and/or serious and untoward incidents as required by the Service Manager. Delivering, auditing, and giving feedback on clinical and managerial supervision, PADS and performance management of a nursing team. Modify and improve practice using the results from clinical audit. Providing leadership to the ward and within the multi-disciplinary team. Undertaking research and clinical audit in own specialist areas. Presenting project work, research, audits and proposals at appropriate forums. Providing specialist education and training to other staff and students. Responsibility as directed by the Service Manager for staff recruitment and facilitating practices which ensure the retention of staff. Utilise existing links with colleges and universities in order to provide academic nursing sessions and influence the recruitment of new staff members. Interfacing with other outside professionals and agencies. Effective management of sickness/absenteeism adhering to Trust Policy/Procedure for staff.

Responsible for ensuring that clinical governance is integral to the service Responsible for ensuring effective working links with all professionals involved in providing aftercare for individual patients. To observe and ensure compliance with requirements of the mental health act 2007 and accommodate visiting mental health act commissioners. Responsibility for ensuring that Safeguarding Policies and Procedures are implemented and adhered to.

Work Experience

  • Evidence of functioning in a substantive role as a clinician at Band 6 in a mental health setting within a multi disciplinary team.
  • Team management skills, budget and resource management skills.
  • Proven ability and experience to manage and resolve crisis and conflict within the workplace.
  • Evidence of highly developed skills in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of multi disciplinary programmes of care for the patients group.
  • Proven ability to manage, lead set objectives and plan the development of staff within a management team.

Desirable
  • Evidence of managing a team within a forensic setting.

Aptitudes / Skills
Essential
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team, delegate and manage workloads

Knowledge
Essential
  • Knowledge of local / national agenda with evidence of a comprehensive understanding of evidence of the impact these have on nursing practice and patient care.
  • Fully conversant with the Mental Health Act 2007.
