Main duties of the job

As a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult working within the community, you will share providing clinical leadership to the Community Mental Health Team covering patients living in Ware, Hertford and Welwyn.

The successful applicant will be mainly working across the Adult Community Mental Health Team. The post holder will be responsible for the assessment and treatment people of working age from his/her catchment with mental health problems, which are referred or otherwise present to secondary care mental health services.

You must ensure the relevant professional registration is maintained, including Section 12, Approved Clinician, and Responsible Clinician status.

Job description Job responsibilities

Duties include, but not exclusive to:
  • Assessment, (including Mental State Examination) diagnosis, and formulation of management plans for patients.
  • Make decisions in consultation with team members, service users and carers.
  • Flexibly review and re-assess service users in response to need and in accordance with the Care Pathway.
  • Know Policy relevant to the role, follow it and support other members of the multidisciplinary team to do so also.
  • Regular or ad hoc supervision on clinical matters with members of the team. Maintain high clinical standards and develop the skills of the team. Lead a culture of high quality clinical care. Explore new innovations in delivering care

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Included in the General Medical Council (GMC) with a current License to Practice
  • Inclusion on Specialist Register (or CCT expected within 3-6 months of interview date)
  • AC Status
  • Section 12 approval
  • MRCPsych or achieved GMC specialist registration through other routes such as CESR
Experience Essential
  • Substantial experience in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Ability to work well in Multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in clinical audit.
  • Clinical experience in a range of services within General Adult Psychiatry
  • Experience in leadership, management and clinical development
Disposition Essential
  • Ability to work flexibly as a part of responsive multi professional community services
Managment Essential
  • Ability to work flexibly as a part of responsive multi professional community services
Personal Skills Essential
  • Be able to actively listen and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
