We have an exciting secondment opportunity on the stroke rehabilitation unit at Williton for 9 months to cover a maternity leave. This is perfect for anyone wishing to trial stroke rehabilitation work as a taster. (please discuss with your current line manager if you wish to request a secondment before attending for a tour and discussion)

This innovative service delivers intensive rehabilitation within patients' homes using state-of-the-art mobile technology, ensuring patients are kept at the centre of all decisions, goals, intervention and discharge plans. The team consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nurses, Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists and Rehabilitation Assistants jointly providing seamless services to patients within their homes and along the whole stroke pathway.

Job description Job responsibilities

The Post Holder Will:-Provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy within the service.Provide specialist assessment, treatment plans and interventions to Stroke and ABI patient in both patients homes, and community hospital setting using a variety of treatment provision methods.

Participate in the development of the Service in the community and within the Community hospital bedded environments.Provide advice regarding the rehabilitation management of patients to families, carers and other members of the MDT.Provide support, guidance and training to Rehabilitation assistants, Assistant Practitioners, Band 5 therapists and students.Responsibility for a caseload of complex patients within both the community and the community hospital bedded environments.Act as Clinical Supervisor and undertake Managerial Supervision, including Appraisal, for Rehabilitation Assistants and Band 5 Occupational TherapistsWork their hours over 7 days, including out of hours, weekends and bank holidays, to meet the needs of the service.Be a car driver with a valid driving licence or have access to transport with appropriate business insurance in order to travel throughout the Trust, to meet the needs of the service

Person Specification Qualifications and Training Essential
  • Diploma / degree in O.T.
  • HPC Registration
  • Membership of COT
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses
Desirable
  • Wheelchair accreditation
  • Post graduate accredited course in Stroke rehabilitation Care of the Elderly and/or Rehabilitation/Neurology
  • Membership of relevant COT special interest group
Knowledge & Experience Essential
  • proven post graduate experience with extensive clinical experience relevant to the post
  • Experience of a wide range of clinical rehabilitation areas of practice to include elderly patients with complex multipathology, neurological, orthopaedics etc
Desirable
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in a Community Hospital setting
  • Experience of lone working
  • Experience of service development and review
