We are looking for Nurses or Allied Health Professionals with post qualifying experience working in mental health. This is a great opportunity to join our team in Solent NHS Trust Children & Families Service line to support in the delivery of high-quality children's mental health services. We are looking for exceptional individuals with the right attitude, skills and knowledge who share our passion to deliver the best quality care experience for children and their families.

The post holder will have duties related to the clinical delivery of care to children, young people and their families accessing the CAMHS team and calls for a professional with experience of working with children, young people and their families experiencing mental health and trauma difficulties. Part of the job plan will include participating in generic CAMHS work, including participating in the duty rota and undertaking initial assessments for the service.

The CAMHS team is a strong and supportive team and has excellent structures to offer regular supervision. You will be working alongside an established team at an important time in our development. Main duties of the job

The post holder will work autonomously in carrying out therapeutic work based on clear theoretical concepts and the application of related techniques and will be responsible for providing assessment, case management and intervention to children, young people and their families / carers. Alongside the clinical aspect of the role the post holder will be involved in developing and sustaining partnership working with individuals, groups, communities and agencies.

The post holder will be expected to provide line management and clinical supervision to others and to work alongside the CAMHS Leadership Team.

The post holder shall -

*Develop and deliver a specialist mental health package under the guidance of the Child and Adolescent Mental Service.

*Offer a mental health perspective to the multi-agency team through assessment, therapeutic work, joint work and participation in team meetings.

*Maintain a caseload and provide direct clinical work that demonstrates a high level of specialist skill in treating the clients system, where families have severe, multi-complex and often long-standing difficulties. All children are seen in the context of their family.

*Offer assessments as part of the self-harm rota. To work one day a week in the single point of access part of the CAMHs service, which includes taking duty calls, triaging new referrals and providing support on the duty rota.

Job description Job responsibilities

*To support staff within a universal and targeted children's workforce.

*To exercise full responsibility and autonomy for assessments, formulation of systemic treatment, reviews and closing summaries and be accountable for professional actions and policies.

*To participate in the development of a high quality, responsive service for children, young people and their families/carers/friends where appropriate. This may include professionally advising and managing those aspects of the service where psychiatric and/or organizational issues need addressing.

*To share responsibility for and to provide a Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service within Specialist CAMHS.

*To be responsible for delivering specialist child and adolescent psychiatry in a way that is integrated with the work of other disciplines within the team.

*To be responsible where appropriate, to liaise closely and integrate specialist child and adolescent psychiatry with the work of other agencies.

*To provide guidance and consultation to other professionals, contributing directly to individual programmes of care.

*To manage referrals and to assess the needs of the referred child or young person and to develop, implement and evaluate appropriate interventions.

*To contribute a specialist child and adolescent psychiatric perspective in team and management discussions.

*To attend Core Group meetings and Team Around the Child meetings and other relevant meetings as required.

*To work or sit in constraint positions for substantial periods of time during interviewing and therapy sessions.

*To ensure children, young people and their carers/significant others are included in planning, implementation and evaluation of care.

*To ensure care is delivered in a person-centred manner ensuring the gender, ethnic cultural and spiritual needs of service users inform practice.

*To operate within the guidance and Code of Ethics of the relevant professional body.

*To act in accordance with legal requirements contained within the Mental Health Act 1983, the Children's Act 1994 and other legislation.

*To have knowledge of and act in accordance with Portsmouth City Safeguarding Children's Board.

*To participate in regular supervision systems and the Individual Appraisal Review and Continuing Professional Development.

*To ensure that care is delivered to incorporate health and social care policy.

*To be aware of and up to date with advances in research practice and development of interventions for mental health disorders and emerging mental health in children and young people.

*To participate in the self-harm rota as required.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • R.M.N., RMCN, RNLD or other nurse qualification with LD/CAMHS experience considered. Social Work or Occupational Therapy Qualification.
  • Postgraduate level of study/degree relevant to discipline or equivalent experience
Desirable
  • Additional training in child and adolescent mental health
Experience Essential
  • Significant or demonstrable experience in mental health to show the breadth/depth of experience required for the role.
  • Crisis management skills
  • Community care experience
  • Stress management
  • Knowledge and experience in child protection/safeguarding procedures, to recognise abuse and escalate appropriately within statutory timeframes.
  • To hold a clinical caseload of complex health needs including mental health as a lead professional within a multi-agency team.
  • Ability to work autonomously

  • Experience of direct work with children/young people with mental health issues
  • Working experience with Children and young people
