Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Clinical Team Lead to work across North Westminster CMHT.

You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work alone and as part of the Multidisciplinary team to provide high quality, safe and effective care to adults in a community setting to promote and ensure recovery focused care. You will take a lead in progressing our Physical Health Agenda and Quality Improvement initiatives The successful post holder will also have the opportunity and clinical support to apply for a Non-Medical Prescribing Course.

For this position you will need to demonstrate flexibility, good time management and be able to coordinate the clinical workload for the team, provide clinical and management supervision and complete annual appraisals for your supervisees.

You will need good negotiation skills in order to work with our partners including Westminster City Council and third sector providers.

The successful candidate will need to have the relevant post registration experience and demonstrate practice that is evidence-based, outcome-focussed and innovative. You must be supportive and willing to work in a co-productive manner.

Main duties of the job

You will have extensive experience working in Adult Mental Health, preferably in the community. You will provide senior managerial and clinical leadership to enable the delivery of key performance indicators and support the Team Manager to drive improvement, meet service objectives and deliver our quality and financial targets whilst working closely with the team, Consultant and Stakeholders.

We are looking for an experienced, focused individual, who is highly motivated with excellent communication and managerial skills. The CMHT is a busy service and you will therefore need to demonstrate resilience and the ability to adapt to the ever-changing demands placed upon you. In return we offer regular clinical supervision, and excellent professional developmental opportunities within a supportive environment.

Overview of Main Responsibilities:

In conjunction with the team manager: To be the clinical team leader for the CMHT, responsible for the clinical practice of the team and ensuring that priorities are met. To assist and deputise for colleagues in the Mental Health Hub other sub-team as necessary To line manage CPNs, OTs, unqualified staff and to line manage the work of the psychologists. To ensure systems for the delivery of CPA and Personalisation are in place and that they are made available to service users in the team To work within the relevant legislative frameworks |(e.g. Mental Health Act (1983) Mental Capacity Act (2005), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLs), the Care Act 2014 etc To promote a culture of service user choice and control within team members daily practice to be monitored and developed through supervision and appraisal To ensure that the team works within the relevant frameworks and policies for safeguarding vulnerable adults To ensure that services within the multidisciplinary team are well co-ordinated in so that they are responsive and attuned to the needs of its service users To ensure that systems are in place for monitoring assessments, allocation, caseloads and clinical review processes To ensure that clinical supervision is given to all health qualified staff in the team and to ensure that staff work to high standards of professional practice. Job description


  • Foster and implement a multi-disciplinary team approach in all aspects of clinical and non-clinical performance.

  • Screen and accept referrals and undertake initial assessment in accordance with the Teams Operational Policy.
  • Work as a leading member of the multidisciplinary team; and work with other team members, to participate in the formulation, review, implementation and monitoring policies for the service.
  • Provide immediate support to patients, relatives and carers.
  • Follow up will use appropriate evidence based clinical skills. The post holder will be expected to function during follow up sessions as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Provide support and information for significant others involved in patient care, or referral to appropriate agencies.
  • Take direct responsibility for supervising caseload management of other, junior team members.
  • Give information/support to telephone callers and junior colleagues within/outside the team regarding mental health issues, documenting as required.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of record keeping and documentation with adherence to CNWL NHS Trusts policy, and understanding of professional guidelines and application of confidentiality, always adhering to the guidelines of own professional code of conduct, ensuring that team members also adhere to these standards.
  • Work with colleagues to develop, lead, promote and define the services philosophy, framework of care delivery and strategic objectives, taking responsibility and accepting ownership for specific areas of policy, service, and strategy delivery, as negotiated with the CMHT Service Manager.
  • Work with fellow team members and colleagues to lead on and develop clinical expertise and high standards of clinical practice
  • Provide expert advice and leadership regarding the pharmacological management of mental health clients to non- mental health professionals.
  • Deliver care that is evidence based, reflecting current best practices and research.
  • Participate in and provide for others, structured clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate sound understanding of the legal and ethical issues in caring for those with mental health difficulties and be able to monitor the use of these with team members to integrate into practices within the team.
