To lead and provide specialist/expert Systemic Psychotherapy for clients and families with a range of severe and complex psychological presentations, as part of a multi-disciplinary approach within the Perinatal Team. In addition to this you will be expected to provide specialist supervision, consultation and training to practitioners from a wide range of disciplines, teams and professional networks to enable them to work more effectively with clients and their families.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead and present highly complex, sensitive and challenging clinical and professional communication that may impact on service users, carers, staff, the team, the organisation, partner agencies and members of the public, where there are barriers to understanding.
  • Promote and support effective working relationships within multi-disciplinary team(s) by working collaboratively and jointly with other team members and professionals from other agencies.
  • To communicate highly complex clinical information in a manner that is relevant and appropriate to the family's needs.


About us

The Perinatal Mental Health Liaison Team is an established and rapidly expanding service which aims to support women during the perinatal period that live in Hull, East Riding, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire. We are a specialist team comprising: psychiatrists, Nurses, Social worker, OT, psychological therapists and nursery nurses.

As a service we uphold the values of promoting woman and family centred care whilst ensuring child protection and welfare of the family. We strive to improve public health by endeavouring to reduce mental health morbidity in mothers through interagency working and communication and fostering collaborative working. We aim to raise awareness and competence by delivering education and training events targeted at key professional groups and collaborate with the University of Hull and other key stakeholders in researching perinatal mental health.

Person Specification Knowledge Essential
  • Demonstrate the ability to devise, implement and evaluate a wide range of evidence based therapeutic interventions and treatment plans for clients and their families/carers
  • Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/care pathways/audit within Adult Mental Health
  • Skills in providing consultation and specialist advice to other professional and non-professional groups and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable
  • Member of specialist interest group/network, locally or nationally
  • Advanced/expert understanding of relevant clinical practice, standards and audits within identified clinical area
  • Evidence of project work that has impacted on practice and demonstrates a higher level of communication/planning/change that impacts out of own area of work/responsibility
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working with a variety of adults with severe, complex and enduring mental health difficulties and their families
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency context
  • Professional networking locally and regionally
Desirable
  • Experience of the application of psychotherapy in different cultural contexts
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or clinical supervision within multi-disciplinary teams
Qualifications Essential
  • Masters level of qualification in family and systemic psychotherapy as recognised by DOH and AFT
  • Specialist training and experience in a wide range of therapeutic frameworks and interventions with clients and families
Personal Attributes Essential
  • Effective inter-personal and communication skills and experience in managing in distressing, risky pressured circumstances
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity
Desirable
  • Be able to demonstrate leadership/management skills at an advanced level
