Ealing IAPT is passionate about offering a great quality therapy to our patients and we are very proud to be able to consistently offer all the IAPT-approved therapies, such as EMDR, DIT, IPT, BCT, and CfD. To that effect, we are committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of our staff and training in additional IAPT modalities is highly encouraged.

We are currently seeking to recruit highly enthusiastic BACP/UKPC accredited practitioners to join our growing team of DIT, CfD, CTfD, IPT and EMDR modality practitioners. The post holder will be responsible for providing advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to both clinical colleagues and to other, non-professional carers. It may involve supervision including modality practitioners, as well as trainee's, modality trainees and other professional groups.

We will offer the successful candidate with the opportunity to attend further training, and to gain experience in carrying out audits relevant to the service.

Main duties of the job

We would like to hear from you if you are:
  • A qualified modality practitioner with postgraduate training in counselling, psychotherapy or counselling psychology
  • Fully accredited with the BACP or UKCP
  • Trained in one or more IAPT approved specialist modality trainings
  • Able to demonstrate good therapeutic relationships with people

There is a need to be able to work flexibly, with session based in Ealing and Southall

In order to provide a service which is accessible to our clients, all staff are required to provide an evening session. We will consider part-time hours for the right candidates.

Job description Job responsibilities

Clinical:
  • To provide specialist Modality assessments of clients referred to the Ealing IAPT service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care
  • To work with clients with a range of mild to moderate mental health problems
  • To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods developed from evidence based practice
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations and drawing upon different explanatory models. To be able to use IAPT approve.
  • interventions/counselling at a specialist level in assessments and interventions.
  • To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are appropriately managed within IAPT.
  • To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice and liaise with other professions on psychological aspects regarding risks. To work and manage clients who are at current risk of suicide or self-harm.
  • To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and to monitor progress during the course of treatment.
  • To provide expertise, advice and support to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of psychological care by all members of the treatment team.
  • To provide reports where appropriate.
  • To attend serious incident (SI) meetings as required.
  • To work clinically with interpreters.



Workforce
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are treated by Ealing IAPT, providing feedback to the referrer
  • The majority of referrals to the Ealing IAPT service come via self-referrals and GPs. Other referral sources are West London Trust teams and other local agencies
  • The post holder will receive individual clinical supervision from a registered supervisor, attend specialist group supervision and monthly line management supervision. There is the option to attend reflective practice.

Partnerships
  • To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care. To assess and deliver highly complex, sensitive and/or contentious information in possible hostile, antagonistic and emotional settings, e.g. deciding whether clients are suitable or unsuitable for particular services, having to break confidentiality at times E.g. referring clients to Social Services for safeguarding concerns
Teaching, training, and supervision

  • To develop skills in the area of professional post-graduate teaching, training and supervision, as appropriate
  • To provide clinical supervision to members of the team where appropriate. This may include HI modality practitioners and other staff
  • To contribute to the pre- and post-qualification teaching of staff, as appropriate
  • To provide advice, consultation and training to staff working with the client group across a range of agencies and settings, where appropriate.


Management, recruitment, policy and service development

  • To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the teams operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit
  • To advise both service and management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing
  • To manage the workloads of assistant and psychologist and other team members, within the framework of the team/services policies and procedures
  • To be familiar with service policies and delivery with service and Trust


IT responsibilities
  • To enter and retrieve data using the IAPTUS system
  • To be familiar accessing information from RiO


Research and service evaluation

  • To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence based practice in individual work and work with other team members
  • To undertake appropriate research and provide research advice to other staff undertaking research
  • To undertake project management, including complex audit and service evaluation, with colleagues within the service to help develop service provision.


General

  • To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holders professional and service manager(s)
  • To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in Modalities across the service, by continuing to develop the skills of a reflective practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of IAPT and related disciplines
  • To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the BACP, UKCP, BPC and Trust policies and procedures.


  • To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.


Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Post-graduate training in counselling, psychotherapy or counseling psychology or post graduate training in another core mental health profession (nursing, Occupational therapy) plus a post graduate diploma or higher degree in counselling or psychotherapy
  • Fully accredited with the BACP or UKCP (psychotherapeutic counsellor)
  • Professional registration with the appropriate body E.G. Professional Standards Authority (PSA) or Health Professions Council (HPC)
  • To have completed training in one or more IAPT approved specialist modality trainings: Dynamic Interpersonal therapy (DIT) Counselling for depression(CFD) Couples Therapy for Depression (Tavistock) Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) EMDR
Desirable
  • Qualification in clinical supervision
  • Qualified Supervisor in IAPT approved modality therapy
Experience Essential
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients within an IAPT service
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups and presenting problems that reflect a range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience at working with psychological Therapies at a specialist level.
Desirable
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
  • Experience of the application of counselling in different cultural contexts
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings. Including outpatient, community, and primary care settings
Knowledge Essential
  • High-level knowledge of the theory and practice of Counselling and psychotherapy
  • Knowledge of issues relating to primary and secondary care psychological therapies services.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. Medically unexplained symptoms, long term conditions and recognition of personality disorder).
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
