This is a fantastic opportunity for a dietitian with innovation and drive to continue to deliver the specialist dietetic service for the children, teenagers and young adults oncology unit. We are looking for an enthusiastic dietitian with oncology or paediatric experience and an interest in working with teenagers and young people to become part of this excellent clinical service.
o Be part of the dietetic team responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, high-quality dietetic service for both inpatients and outpatients receiving all types of oncology treatment (including transplant, radiotherapy, palliative care and clinical trials) at the Children, Teenager and Young Peoples Cancer unit (ages 1 -24 years).o Continue to develop the high quality, specialist dietetic service for this patient cohort.o Responsibility for provision of education, audit and research within the service with senior staff and AHP colleagues.o Management of your own clinical caseload in both paediatrics and TYA and work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Provide the Royal Marsden Hospital with an effective and flexible nutrition and dietetic service to paediatric in and out patients and to Teenage and young adults (TYA) in and out patients. The post-holder should be a skilled practitioner, who is a source of knowledge and expertise for less experienced colleagues, patients, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team.

- Work autonomously to provide expert advice to patients, carers and clinicians based on clinical evidence.
- This will involve nutritional diagnosis (interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometrics, clinical condition and analysis of diet history) the development of treatment plans (calculation of nutritional requirements and client centred goals)
- Determining route of feeding i.e. oral, enteral or parenteral
- Prescription of dietary treatment for conditions where there are limited professional guidelines and direct prescription of ACBS nutritional products
- Ordering biochemical tests as appropriate
- To monitor and review nutritional care plans against outcome measures and adjust care plans as appropriate to facilitate achievement of goals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and ward rounds to provide expert advice to facilitate treatment planning (e.g. gastroenterology, head and neck), rehabilitation and management of late effects following treatment for cancer
- Communicate a complex diagnosis using sensitivity, reassurance and empathy to gain consent and understanding of the treatment plans required prior to dietetic intervention. For example oral, enteral, parenteral nutrition where the appropriateness of feeding needs to be considered, taking into account : the aims of the treatment plan, physical and social circumstances, psychological factors and patient prognosis
- Using developed counselling skills, communicate unpleasant news sensitively including to those with advanced disease and their carers.

- BSc / Postgraduate Diploma Nutrition & Dietetics
- HCPC registered
- Evidence of further postgraduate study/training in specialist area e.g. oncology/ nutritional support and/or paediatric courses
