We are looking for an exceptional Volunteer Services Manager to lead our volunteer programme, contributing to excellence in patient care while ensuring a rewarding and positive experience for volunteers. You will oversee the recruitment, training, placement, and pastoral care of volunteers, creating a vibrant programme that enhances the lives of patients, their families, and the volunteers themselves.

We're looking for a respectful, compassionate and determined person with:
  • Experience in volunteer management or a related field
  • Desire to inspire and support a diverse volunteer community
  • A commitment to creating inclusive and engaging opportunities for volunteers from all backgrounds


Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Patient Experience Lead, you will:
  • Partner with volunteers, supervisors, and external organisations, including NHS Trusts, community groups, and educational institutions, to enhance services and grow the volunteer network.
  • Manage recruitment, compliance checks, placement, and training of volunteers. Develop strategies to attract and retain an accomplished and diverse volunteer base
  • Support and mentor the Volunteer Services Administration Assistant, while addressing volunteer performance or conduct issues with compassion
  • Uphold policies, legislation, and safeguarding standards, incorporating feedback to improve services
  • Develop volunteer opportunities, organise dynamic recruitment events, and promote a culture of appreciation by recognising volunteers' contributions

    Qualifications & Training

    Essential

    • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or an equivalent level of experience
    • Recognised management qualification or an equivalent level of experience
    • Evidence of continuing professional development (e.g. relevant training courses)


    Experience

    Essential

    • Experience managing volunteer programmes, including recruitment, training, and pastoral care
    • Experience of a range of administrative procedures including maintaining data and report writing
    • Experienced in assessing and prioritising work based on urgency and service needs
    • Experience drafting clear and professional email correspondence, guidance, and training documents


    Knowledge & Skills

    Essential

    • Proficiency in collaborating with and connecting with diverse teams to build partnerships and promote a culture of appreciation
    • Computing skills, including the ability to use email, internet, applications, and software relevant to the role
    • Knowledge of health and safety, safeguarding, information governance and data protection standards
    • Understanding of safeguarding needs for children, young people, families, and adults with an awareness of cultural diversity and health inequalities
    • The ability to organise and refine administrative processes, and maintain quality standards

    • Creative enthusiasm for promoting volunteer contributions and organising engaging events
