We are looking for an experienced and motivated communications and engagement professional to work alongside our Digital and Information and Transformation service on the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) Programme of work, using your specialist knowledge to ensure that communications and engagement advice is integrated in planning and decision-making from the outset.

As a Communications Business Partner you will be responsible for setting the direction for the EPR programme and leading engagement with more than 19,000 colleagues on this vital project.

Main duties of the job

This promises to be a varied, rewarding and at times challenging role involving working directly with colleagues within corporate communications and digital services.

You will be responsible for helping colleagues have the right information to do their jobs caring for patients to the best of their ability, you will provide sound and evidence-based support to the EPR Leadership Team and will have the opportunity to develop and lead on an excellent internal and external programme of communications and engagement activity.

The successful candidate will work directly in to the Head of Internal Communications with the wider professional support of the function, as well as embedding themselves with colleagues within the digital and information, and transformation services.

NHS experience is not essential. What matters most is that you have a want to learn, a commitment to continually improve and a desire to make a difference.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to postgraduate standard or equivalent experience in internal and external communications
  • Excellent level of English, written and verbal
  • Evidence of continuous self-development


Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in communications, or working towards this standard
  • Evidence of a solid understanding of patient confidentiality and the relevant aspects of libel law, the Freedom of Information Act, Equality Act and Data Protection Act.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of managing and motivating staff and teams
  • Demonstrated capabilities to manage own workload and make informed decisions in the absence of required information, working to tight and often changing timescales
  • Experience of stakeholder management
  • Experience of internal comms and staff engagement delivery


Desirable

  • Experience of working in a customer-facing environment
  • Understanding of the public sector
  • Experience of delivering digital projects


Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential

  • Ability to interpret data, produce reports and draw out recommendations to improve internal and external engagement.
  • Ability to analyse issues quickly and make recommendations

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work with staff from across the organisation at all levels, along with managers from the wider NHS, journalists and external organisations
  • Ability to manage confrontational situations and sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy
  • Confident and able to establish credibility quickly at all levels of the organisation including senior and Trust Board level
  • Ability to prepare and produce concise yet insightful communications for dissemination to senior stakeholders and a broad range of stakeholders as required

  • Experience of CMS systems for websites and intranets, and confidence in using them
  • Experience of developing new and innovative communication channels
