The Adult Safeguarding Co-ordinator will co-ordinate adult safeguarding activity and all referrals from. The role will provide an impartial, personal, efficient, visible and effective Adult Safeguarding Service by ensuring service users and staff, have access to and receive timely and high quality information, advice and signposting guidance in relation to safeguarding concerns.

This includes liaising with frontline staff to receive, manage and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with Trust policy and procedures and recognised best practice. Working closely with staff and managers to to address any safeguarding concerns and issues in a timely and efficient way in order to achieve the best possible outcome for the services user.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for supporting Adult Safeguarding processes within RCHT safeguarding services.

The post holder will be based in the specialty of Safeguarding working as part of the Integrated Safeguarding Service

The post holder will be an experienced safeguarding practitioner

Additional Information

Any other duties commensurate with the post holder's band as agreed with their line manager.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to Diploma/Degree Level or equivalent experience in area of expertise.
  • Evidence of continuing development and willingness to learn.
  • Evidence of further learning in safeguarding adults and/or children


Desirable

  • Health Care/Social Work qualification
  • Advocacy/Mediation qualification or experience
  • Training qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Experience and proven ability of dealing with distressed, upset patients or staff members.
  • Experience and proven success in discussing sensitive issues with people.
  • Very significant experience of Adult and/or Child Safeguarding processes and procedures.
  • Experience of analysing problems and providing solutions/plans in the field of adult abuse.
  • Experience of using and managing a data base and data analysis.
  • Experience of working with senior clinicians/service providers and challenging them appropriately on behalf of the patient/service user.
  • Experience of advocacy, conciliation, mediation and use of analytical skills.


Desirable

  • Experience of undertaking investigations and researching/providing information/advice to patients and/or the public in a health, social care or voluntary environment
  • Experience of involvement in developing a service or process in the field of adult abuse.
  • Experience of delivering training sessions.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and listening skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Empathy and aptitude to manage distressed patients/relatives/carers.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills to manage and de-escalate potentially difficult/contentious /highly charged situations.
  • Excellent skills in prioritising and managing a number of conflicting requirements in a professional and calm manner, able to deal with a number of complex issues at the same time.


Knowledge and abilities

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of the NHS Adult and Child Safeguarding procedures and policies, data protection and risk management procedures.
  • Good knowledge of NHS and Local, Regional and National Policies.
  • Good knowledge of safeguarding adults and children's legislation
  • Knowledge of health related terminology and concepts.


Desirable

  • Knowledge or relevant electronic systems (IAPTUS, RIO, HALO etc)
