We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist (to join our existing patient focused team of rotational Clinical Pharmacists. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a wealth of clinical experience to take the next step in their career or those with an interest in specialist paediatric service. You will gain experience in a number of specialist rotations, including a variety of therapeutic areas such as Surgery, Intensive Care, General Medicines (e.g., Neurology, Renal, Endocrinology/Metabolic/Gastroenterology andImmunology/Rheumatology/Dermatology/PN/Commissioning)Candidates will be guided and supported by the Senior Specialist Pharmacists and introduced to core directorate activities including new drugs and clinical guideline development

Main duties of the job

  • To provide clinical pharmaceutical service within the specialties to promote safe and cost-effective use of medicines. This includes attending ward rounds, ward meetings and the homecare deliveryservice to patients for the relevant units.
  • To monitor prescribing practices in the units and provide feedback and recommendations to improve standards and guidelines.
  • To support the Senior Specialist Pharmacists in developing and reviewing prescribing guidelines within the units, taking into account all relevant local and national policies and procedures
  • To deputise for the Senior Specialist Pharmacists in attending unit meetings, clinical governance meetings and reviewing monthly drug expenditure where appropriate
  • To prepare critical appraisals on new or unlicensed medicines for formal submissions to the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee and NCL Joint Formulary Committee.
  • To provide dispensary support to ensure timely turnaround of in-patient and discharge medicines for patients within the specialities

  • Registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience providing a clinical service to a specialist area e.g. rheumatology, dermatology, surgery, intensive care, neurology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, metabolic, PN, renal, commissioning and general paediatrics on the private wards
  • Multi-disciplinary team working


Desirable

  • Use of medicines in specialist area of paediatrics
  • Experience of writing and updating local guidelines
  • An understanding of the pharmaceutical issues of the specialist areas
