INTERNAL ONLY TO NORTH CUMBRIA INTEGRATED CARE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST (NCIC) EMPLOYEES ONLY

The post holder will support the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) on the Cumberland Infirmary site and be required to act as a specialist in stroke and will provide direct contact care, make high level decisions informed by assessment and treatment skills, and deliver highly specialist case management advice to multi-disciplinary teams.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:

Clinical Practice
  • Deliver highly specialist case management advice to multi-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of own level of responsibility and autonomy and the limits of own competence and professional scope of practice
  • in collaboration with Consultant staff, assessing and treating patients (ordering and interpretation of investigations and non-medical prescribing)

Developing Self and Others
  • Act as a constant source of clinical and theoretical knowledge for all grades and disciplines of staff as well as patients and their significant others, providing support and clinical advice in Stroke, based on evidenced based research
  • Day to day management of trainee stroke ACPs
  • Disseminate best practice research findings whilst developing and contributing to local guidelines, interpreting and adapting national protocols and standards to enhance patient care and safety

Quality, Evaluation and Research
  • Lead on Audit and evaluation of the service
  • To participate in national Stroke research projects, where appropriate

Leading and Developing Practice
  • Demonstrate a strong leadership and management skillset as per the leadership and management pillar
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management issues surrounding the role
  • Contribute to Trust wide policy and lead service specific policy development by representing the needs of Adults affected by Stroke

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

Please note the cost of the DBS check is increasing from 2nd December and the new cost will be

Standard DBS check £21.50, Enhanced DBS check £49.50 + any admin costs.

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered healthcare practitioner and active registration with the NMC
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree level qualification supplemented by post graduate diploma specialist training, experience, short courses plus further specialist training to masters equivalent level
  • Teaching or mentoring qualification


Desirable

  • Formal leadership and/or management training qualification
  • Independent Prescriber
  • MSc qualification in relevant subject or Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent level of experience


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience in the management of acute Stroke and Stroke rehabilitation.
  • Previous leadership/management experience
  • High level of communication skills and demonstrated ability to engage with multiple stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience of utilising research findings in clinical practice
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Developed and lead clinical training sessions


Desirable

  • Experience within acute care
  • Experience of involvement in formal research
  • Academic teaching experience
  • Experience of implementing organisational change

  • Evidence of extensive expert knowledge in Stroke.
