We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join a dynamic multi-disciplinary team.

The MSCC Co-ordinator will oversee the co-ordination of person-centred treatment and care for patients with metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC) and other metastatic spinal disease such as impending metastatic spinal cord compression (IMSCC), nerve root compression and spinal metastasis.

The Service supports the region of Cheshire and Merseyside (C& M) and is hosted at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC) which is recognised as a centre of excellence, delivering specialist, high quality care.

Main duties of the job

The role is responsible for operational oversight of diagnostic and treatment pathways to ensure the appropriate primary intervention is delivered within NICE compliant time frames, this includes a combination of surgery, radiotherapy and systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT).

As a clinical member of the multi-professional urgent care team, you will work alongside the medical on-call staff within the CCC to liaise with referring organisations including acute trusts, primary care and hospices.

You will work closely with the wider Acute Oncology community and regional referral organisations, acting as a point of reference for all health professionals, giving specialised advice on management of patients in their care.

The post holder will contribute to data management including centralised real time audit recording, and service improvement work streams that form part of wider Cancer Alliance and network developments.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Nursing or Allied Health Profession
  • Registration of a professional body
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development


Desirable

  • Evidence of further study at Masters level.
  • Experience of working with cancer patients and their families


Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Post registration experience of working in an oncology environment
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Experience in organising co-ordinated care across organisations
  • Ability to prioritise work, demonstrates good organisational skills and able to manage caseload
  • Ability to act as a clinical lead practitioner in area of expertise, providing support and initial management plan to multiprofessionals across emergency and urgent care settings
  • Experience in the use of data management including excellent IT skills, proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of cancer, the treatment of cancer and awareness of the individual needs of people affected by cancer
  • To take lead of network wide audit data and service improvement plans
  • To deliver network multiprofessional education programmes in collaboration with Acute Oncology teams, spinal teams and the Cancer Alliance
  • Knowledge of the organisational and working practices within the healthcare setting
  • Understanding of the NHS and current cancer agenda
