EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate NHS Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age to join and provide medical leadership for the Kitwood inpatient ward based at St Margaret's Hospital in Epping, West Essex.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with the ward managers and the wider MDT to provide a safe and effective service and also the relevant community teams and contribute to providing an effective care pathway for patients across the service. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician (RC) for patients under their care on Kitwood ward for patients detained under the Mental Health Act.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to carry out the duties expected of an RC knowledgably and in a timely manner. The post holder will be expected to be knowledgeable of the Mental Capacity Act and be proficient at applying it appropriately to patient care. In addition, the post holder will provide medical input to the Liaison Psychiatry Team at St Margaret's Hospital which receives referrals from medical rehab wards based at the Epping Forest Unit. This involves discussing and supervising assessments carried out by the team and providing medical input as appropriate, including issuing prescriptions where necessary and occasionally carrying out face-to-face assessments. The post holder will also provide consultant medical input to local Care Homes which is a small service in-reaching into local care homes to support staff, prevent admissions by dealing with any problems early and providing training for care home staff where appropriate.
You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.

- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Registration with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register OR within six months
- Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant.
- Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician Status.
Desirable
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
- MRCPsych
- On the Specialist Register with qualifications Older Adult.
- Postgraduate degree in psychiatry MRC Psych or equivalent.
