BASE: Your primary base will be Pathology at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
GRADE: Band 6
REPORTS TO: Team Leader
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Department Service Manager
Main duties of the job
We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS) to work as part of our Routine Chemistry team within Blood Sciences.
The ideal candidates must be HCPC registered, will have completed a Specialist Portfolio (or equivalent) in their respective discipline and have demonstrated ability and knowledge at that level for at least 24 months. Candidates may also be considered who have started their Specialist Portfolio.
With a passion for Chemistry you will be an experienced Biomedical Scientist who will join our team at an exciting time of change and modernisation. You will help to support the team to embed our quality culture into everyday practices through your understanding of UKAS IS0 15189 standards and how these impact on a clinical laboratory.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to continued training and education.
The role includes an on call service across the 24/7 period. You must be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, a flexible approach in line with the Trust agenda of service reconfiguration and be capable of working accurately and efficiently under pressure. Previous experience with Pathology computer systems for Blood Sciences is essential.

- Carry out all laboratory analyses associated with the post, including reporting results, maintaining appropriate records and documentation.
- Undertake specialised analytical work in designated areas of the department.
- Participate in the departments rosters as required.
- Take delegated responsibility for the supervision, training and coaching of staff.
- Maintain ongoing Professional Portfolio and update Professional Development Plan. Undertake courses and other activities to satisfy HCPC Continuing Professional Development requirements.
- Assist the department with the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System.
