Job title: Specialist Biomedical Scientist

REPORTS TO: Team Leader

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Department Service Manager

Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS) to work as part of our Routine Chemistry team within Blood Sciences.

The ideal candidates must be HCPC registered, will have completed a Specialist Portfolio (or equivalent) in their respective discipline and have demonstrated ability and knowledge at that level for at least 24 months. Candidates may also be considered who have started their Specialist Portfolio.

With a passion for Chemistry you will be an experienced Biomedical Scientist who will join our team at an exciting time of change and modernisation. You will help to support the team to embed our quality culture into everyday practices through your understanding of UKAS IS0 15189 standards and how these impact on a clinical laboratory.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to continued training and education.

The role includes an on call service across the 24/7 period. You must be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, a flexible approach in line with the Trust agenda of service reconfiguration and be capable of working accurately and efficiently under pressure. Previous experience with Pathology computer systems for Blood Sciences is essential.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:
  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
