We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, Specialist Diabetes Dietitian to join our team delivering innovative dietetic services to people with diabetes at Edgware Community Hospital

This is a broad summary of the role detailing key areas of operation and responsibilities - further detail will beprovided in the Main Duties and Responsibilities section, below, which provides more granular detail with the Job Description.

You will also be supported by an experienced team of community dietitians who hold regular peer support meetings and provide 1:1 supervision to facilitate clinical excellence and personal development.

Main duties of the job

To work in conjunction with the Community Diabetes Service Lead and the Dietetic Lead in developing the Diabetes Services business plan and a strategic direction for the Service in line with Trust objectives.

To advise Diabetes Service Lead and Dietetic Lead on financial implications relating to client care or project management.

To participate in Dietetic Student training programmes and be responsible for the supervision and assessment of Dietetic students in area of clinical expertise.

To produce and interpret statistical information as determined by the Diabetes Service Lead.

In conjunction with Diabetes Service Lead assist in the recruitment and selection of staff members including advertising, short listing, interviewing and working with Human Resources throughout the process.

To be responsible for the dietetic arm of the Diabetes Service, including staff appraisals when the Senior Diabetes Dietitian is absent.

To assist with the management and training of the Education Co-coordinator.

To take responsibility for ensuring Trust policy is adhered to in identifying and addressing clinical incidents and complaints.

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • Degree in Dietetics
  • Health Professions Council Registration
  • Evidence of further study in specialist area e.g. MSc in Diabetes or Obesity, or significant experience
  • Post registration training in Behaviour Change


Desirable

  • Membership of the British Dietetics Association
  • Membership of Special Interest Group, e.g. DMEG, DOM UK
  • Teacher/Training qualification
  • Supervisory skills training


Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years recent post-graduate experience in a range of clinical areas, with at least 2 years' experience working in diabetes
  • Experience in the training of student Dietitians.
  • Experience in organising and implementing training/teaching programmes for healthcare professionals and clients.
  • Experience of conducting audits and/or research
  • Experience in contributing to Service Development, including policy and guideline development.
  • Experience in supervising others
  • Experience with working with change behaviour techniques.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team.


Desirable

  • Experience working in Community Dietetics


Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to undertake leadership role in clinical speciality.
  • Advanced skills in the assessment and treatment of clients with complex diabetes needs
  • Ability to work as a team member and promote collaborative multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Advanced knowledge of evidence-based practice associated with diabetes.
  • Ability to interpret health and social policies and guidelines and to translate into practice
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritise, and demonstrate clinical reasoning based on experience and knowledge
  • Basic IT skills - Microsoft Word, Power point, Excel.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to equal opportunities
