An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered mental health or learning disability nurse to join the team on our CYPMH Day Service, which opened in April 2024 as an alternative to hospital admission. This new service operates from the same building as the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit (Mill Lodge). The service provides specialised interventions for young people between the ages of 13 and 17 with a range of mental health difficulties, including those with eating disorders and autistic young people, in order to reduce the need for inpatient admissions. Working with young people and their families is highly rewarding and can provide high levels of job satisfaction.
We would welcome applications from both experienced nurses and nurses needing to complete their preceptorship for this post. LYPFT offers a high level of preceptorship support with regular learning and development days alongside support from your preceptor at Willow View. We also offer a preceptorship support group within the service.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about working with young people, be able to show initiative and work within a multidisciplinary team. Clinical supervision will be provided on a regular basis and all relevant training will be available with opportunities to develop any particular interests. We use a range of therapeutic approaches at Mill Lodge and Willow View with key ones being trauma informed care, DBT skills and Systemic Family Therapy. All nurses are also trained in providing NG feeding as an intervention for young people.
The Staff Nurse will be part of the core Willow View team, who are supported by a wider team covering both Mill Lodge and Willow View. Willow View sees young people between 8am and 6pm from Monday to Friday, The main duties will be to work closely with the young people aged 13-17 accessing the service and their families, in order to build up a therapeutic relationship and engage in therapeutic work to enable the young person to stay in the community. This will involve supporting young people at meal times, co-facilitating group sessions and doing individual work based on their presenting problem and formulation. The post holder will act as a named nurse and will also be responsible for completing care plans, risk assessments and reports for the young people.
