An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Haematology & Transfusion Services as a band 7 Transfusion Practitioner. Applications are invited from professionals with a keen interest in the speciality from both registered nurses (NMC pin) and HCPC registered biomedical scientists with relevant experience in an acute hospital setting. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, good understanding of transfusion practices and governance procedures, teaching experience and organisational skills. The candidate will be leading in incident management actions on a regular basis. The role will include working across different trust sites at Imperial that includes a broad range of specialist services. The post holder will promote safe transfusion practices working along with other transfusion practitioners, clinicians, practice educators, laboratory and nursing staff. The candidate is expected to deliver teaching at trust inductions, core skills training, and to conduct audits and chair/attend/teach at various meetings at internally and externally.

Main duties of the job
- Reporting to the lead transfusion practitioner or team leader to promote safe and appropriate transfusion practice across the Trust in line with Patient Blood Management.
- To be a key member of the Trust Transfusion Team (TTT) and lead on the meetings when required.
- To support the development and implementation of the policies of the Trust Transfusion Committee (TTC)
- To exercise high levels of judgment, discretion and decision-making in clinical care to provide specialist expertise and advice on blood transfusion issues
- To promote blood transfusion quality and safety practices enabling the Trust to meet the requirements of: the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005, recommendations arising from Serious Hazards of Transfusion (SHOT), the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) Safer Practice Notice Right Patient Right Blood 2006, NHSL.
- To promote safe and appropriate transfusion practice within the Trust and assist in the provision of autologous transfusion service.
- To work towards improving the overall standard of care for patients requiring transfusion of blood components through the development and delivery of multi-professional training and competency assessment programmes, the supervision and support of colleagues in transfusion practice and clinical audit.

- Registered Nurse/ HPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
- Evidence of post-registration education activity.
- Degree/ Certificate/Diploma in management/professional nursing issues or relevant experience.
