We are seeking a motivated newly qualified Orthoptic graduate to join our team at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are a friendly and experienced team which includes three former Moorfields new graduate orthoptists who have stayed with us to develop their career.
This is a full-time, fixed term post with the contract running for 12 months from the start date, there may be an opportunity to extend the contract as we expend the service. Applications will have access to a clinical buddy to provide daily support and complete the modified BIOS Orthoptic preceptorship programme. The post is based at primarily at City Road site, and following the preceptorship period, a willingness to work to support one of our three main network sites (St Georges, Northwick Park or Ealing centres) providing care closer to home for patients, would be expected.

The orthoptic department has strong links with education providing academic and clinical training to a range of health care professionals and preparing learners for formal examination. We also offer opportunity to attend in house monthly strabismus teaching and provide continuous professional development within a supportive environment. Team members regularly attend conferences and study days to enhance learning. Given the range of sub-speciality clinics there are also opportunities to work shadow and develop a network with other graduates across London.
1. To be responsible for the orthoptic assessment, diagnosis and appropriate management of new patients referred to the orthoptic department from the Trusts specialist services, which include tertiary referrals.
2. To positively engage in the services preceptorship scheme and in-house CPD
3. To actively participate in departmental and relevant specialist service audits and professional development activities.

- Adult: strabismus, toxin injection, neuro-ophthalmology, nystagmus, adnexal, general ophthalmology and A& E
- Paediatrics: general, cataracts, glaucoma, special educational needs, adnexal, neuro-ophthalmology
- Core orthoptic new and follow-up paediatric and adult clinics
- Orthoptic and optometry children and adult vision clinics, hearing loss and special education needs clinic.
