Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is now recruiting for Senior Clinical Advisors in our Emergency (999) Operations Centres based in Wakefield and York with course start dates from March 2025 onwards.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Clinical Advisor is responsible for the assessment of health and clinical needs, utilising professional clinical judgement, supported by decision support software.

This requires generalist and specialist skills as a telehealth professional to assess and deliver care to patients.

Applicants should have experience in emergency care, assessment of high acuity symptoms, a broad knowledge of conditions and an understanding of red flag symptoms and consequence.

As a Senior Clinical Advisor, you will need to be able to demonstrate the following key skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Work with a variety of clinical specialists to ensure safe clinical processes for patients
  • The ability to make quick safe clinical decisions under pressure and the ability to assess and identify red flag symptoms and conditions
  • Undertake referrals to internal and external clinicians

You will provide a medical assessment, medication advice, health information and implement care packages to a range of individuals, liaising with other agencies and healthcare providers, as necessary.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To be successful in this role you should be a registered professional (for example, a registered Nurse or Paramedic) and have experience of undertaking clinical assessment within an acute or primary care setting.

Please note: The training and mentorship period is full time.

If successful at shortlisting you will be invited to a recruitment event on the 31st January 2025. Depending on the number of applications there may be an additional date added of 01 February 2025.

If you are invited to one of our recruitment events, candidates are expected to pass both a telephone triage and multiple choice assessment in order to progress to an interview which will be conducted on the same day.

Person Specification

Knowledge & education

Essential

  • Registered Professional (RN1 or HPC or equivalent professional qualification) with current valid registration


Desirable

  • Health diploma/degree


Skills and abilities

Essential

  • Knowledge and competence in keyboard and IT skills to access databases and varying computer software programmes.
  • Able to assess and manage clinical risk appropriately


Desirable

  • Understanding of audit, evaluation and clinical governance


Experience & work achievements

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years post qualification experience in acute or primary care settings with experience of clinical assessment.


Desirable

  • Experience of telephone triage
  • Experience of undertaking a mentoring role
