The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital [RACH] is located on the Royal Sussex County Hospital site in Brighton. In June 2007 RACH opened on the current site in its brand new state of the art facility. It has won an international design award and continues with offering pioneering children's care. The RACH has a long history of progressive and innovative Children's care embracing medicine, nursing and related professions, children's nurse training and research. It is one is of the leading children's centre's on the South Coast and has a 24 hour dedicated children's emergency department. RACH works closely with the neonatal service providing support and services for neonates such as surgery.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated team player to join our dynamic paediatric departments.

Our Day Case Ward is a busy unit which cares for children having surgery or investigations and treatment of medical conditions from a wide range of specialties.

We are looking for a committed, adaptable, hard working Children's Nurse with good interpersonal and communication skills.

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

Main duties of the job

A member of the multi-disciplinary team provides the highest standard of patient care.

Contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the Unit.

Continue to develop own knowledge and skills through locally agreed development plans and contribute to the development of others.

Contribute to working in partnership with other agencies.

Requirement for post holder to work in rotation between other wards if needed.

To ensure a safe clean clinical environment for all patients, visitors and staff

To ensure patients respect, dignity and privacy and to act with kindness and courtesy to all members of the public

To understand and adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council's (NMC) Code of Conduct and other NMC Standards

To maintain accurate records of care, treatment and observations.

To assist the ward manager in the control, storage and competent administration of medications according to Trust policies and NMC Guidance.

To be responsible for ensuring patient safety, taking proactive steps to ensure patients come to no harm.

To take personal responsibility for identifying own training needs for mandatory and statutory training and ensuring that training sessions are attended.

To actively contribute to the teaching and learning of others.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Paediatric Nurse
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience of working with children


Desirable

  • PILS
  • 1 year post qualification
