The post holder will provide specialist behavioural support and advice to smokers who want to quit. They will be expected to deliver support through hospital settings across CTMUHB sites, inclusive of one to one and telephone interventions and group intervention where possible.

We require enthusiastic motivated individuals who have the ability and passion to work within our friendly and committed team. Help Me Quit is expanding its service and we require 2 Hospital Smoking cessation advisors who have the ambition to help drive these changes and help expand the service we offer. Commitment to undertake ongoing training and development is essential. We offer both community and hospital based training and customised Help Me Quit study days developed by our team and specialist central Public Health cessation team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent previous experience.


Desirable

  • Counselling qualification eg. Certificate in Counselling, WNB Counselling Skills.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Recognised professional qualification in health or social care eg. RGN, Diploma in Counselling, CQSW.
  • Understanding of the principles and practice of client confidentiality.
  • Health related behaviour and behaviour change strategies.
  • Knowledge of existing smoking cessation services.


Desirable

  • National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training (NCSCT) Advisor training.
  • Knowledge of nicotine replacement therapy.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of providing client/patient centred services in a health or social care setting.
  • Experience of health education / one to one behaviour change support on health issues.


Desirable

  • Experience in working with smoking or other addictive behaviours.


Skills

Essential

  • Organisational skills to prioritise work.
  • Meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated and able to work without supervision.
  • Problem solving and fact finding.


Desirable
