To manage a defined and varied caseload of community based clients withlearning disabilities and additional needs. Using specialist OccupationalTherapy skills and evidence based /client centred principles to assess,plan, implement and evaluate interventions. You will work with clients in the following areas Sensory Integration, Activities of Daily Living and Engagement and meaningful activities. As well as other interventions relevant to individual client need.

As well as working directly with clients you will support stakeholder approaches to client care and interventions.

We are looking for a Occupational Therapist with a commitment to advocating for the Learning Disability Community and an interest in continued professional development in this area. Who will work as part of a team who value innovation, motivation and compassion.

To supervise Occupational Therapy students on practice placement.

To hold and manage an client caseload independently

To provide leadership for junior staff, as delegated by supervisor

To participate in the development and evaluation of OccupationalTherapy and Learning Disabilities Services within a designated team,under the supervision of a Senior Occupational Therapist (Band 7).

To participate in multi-disciplinary assessments and interventions.

To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highestprofessional standards of practice, through active participation ininternal and external CPD training and development programs

To participate in multidisciplinary pathways which may includeAutism/dementia and Eligibility.

  • To select and apply Occupational Therapy Assessments for a caseloadaddressing occupational performance, skill deficits. Enabling the client inareas of self maintenance, productivity, leisure and engagement. To plan and implement client centred individual and/or group interventions,using clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment interventions toachieve therapeutic goals. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for clients with multiple needs inorder to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.Completing outcome measures To apply a high level of understanding of the effect of disability and providetraining and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the clientssocial and physical environment where applicable To provide effective leadership, performance management, supervisionand appraisal for junior staff. To provide specialist advice to OT colleagues in other clinical areas. To provide specialist advice and training to carers, clients and otherprofessionals. To be responsible for the supervision and written assessment ofOccupational Therapy students on practice placement within the Trust. To participate in the operational planning, and implementation of policyand service development within the team. To maintain a high level of knowledge of resources, service and nationalissues relating to people who have a learning disability. To apply specialist skills and knowledge in order to establish professionalcompetence and fitness to practise as a senior Occupational Therapist. To be actively involved in the development and implementation of the newservice structure


Person Specification

Training and qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy with 18 months experience
  • Willingness to participate in other related training, as deemed appropriate by SHSC
  • professional registration


Desirable

  • Post Graduate training in Sensory Integration


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of and evidence of interest in working in a role with people with Learning Disabilities
  • MDT working
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Commitment to client-centred, non-discriminatory practice


Desirable

  • line management experience

  • Extensive clinical knowledge including skills in individual and group work
