We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Paediatric and Neonatal Matron to join our team and lead the delivery of exceptional care for children, young people, and neonates. This senior nursing role will oversee clinical excellence, patient safety, and staff wellbeing within our paediatric and neonatal services.

Main duties of the job

Provide strategic and operational leadership for paediatric and neonatal nursing services.

Ensure the highest standards of patient care, safety, and experience.

Act as a professional role model, mentoring and supporting nursing staff.

Lead quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance processes.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless, patient-centred care.

Manage workforce planning, recruitment, and staff development.

About You:

We are looking for an experienced nurse leader with:

Current NMC registration (Registered Nurse - Child Branch).

Substantial post-registration experience in paediatrics and neonatology, including leadership and operational roles.

Strong knowledge of clinical governance, patient safety, and service improvement.

Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.

A passion for delivering outstanding care to children, young people, and their families.

Job responsibilities

Working as an autonomous practitioner, leads and is accountable for the overall nursing performance of the directorate and the achievement of all local, organisational and national targets and standards, working within the Trusts governance framework and the current regulatory & policy requirements.

Provide professional, effective and engaging leadership to nursing and other direct care staff within the directorate. Work as a visible, accessible and authoritative presence to whom patients and families can turn to for advice, support and assistance.

Post holder will take a lead role in optimising performance of pathways, ensuring key deliverables are met.

Post holder has accountability for the quality of nursing care delivered and the patients experience whilst in the directorate.

Essential

  • Current NMC registration - child branch
  • First degree
  • Evidence of leadership and management development


Desirable

  • Masters degree


Experience

Essential

  • Sunstantial post-registration experience in paediatrics and neonatology, including leadership and operational roles
  • Significant experience as a senior nurse working at band 7 or above
  • Experience of managing people and teams, includiing experience of managing staff capability, conduct and sickness
