Join us as a Specialty Support Manager (SSM) for General and Bariatric Surgery, where you'll oversee daily operations, streamline processes, and contribute to outstanding patient care.

About the Role:

As SSM, you will:

Oversee inpatient, outpatient, and diagnostic services, ensuring efficient resource utilisation and adherence to 18-week pathway targets.

Lead a team of administrative staff, managing training, performance standards, and workforce planning.

Collaborate with consultants, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth operations and uphold quality standards.

Analyse performance data, proactively addressing capacity issues and adjusting to meet departmental goals.

Handle complex patient queries with professionalism and empathy.

Work with senior management on business planning and implementing innovative solutions to improve outcomes.

Main duties of the job

  • Establishing, maintaining and monitoring excellent office and information systems
  • Ensuring quality and customer care standards are met where relevant
  • Contribution to positive patient experiences.
  • To support the achievement of all key KPI's for the service.
  • To have day-to-day responsibility for the management of 18 week delivery across the specialties in General Surgery (including bariatrics )

  • Educated to Degree standard or equivalent experience
  • Strong Information Management Systems experience

  • Knowledge of key current NHS issues including 18 weeks
  • Experience of using modernisation tools and service improvement techniques
  • Experience of effective change management

  • Experience of healthcare management

  • An effective communicator, able to use varied and appropriate communication to deal with a variety of situations and audiences including local complaints
  • Well developed analytical skills
  • Expertise in Excel, including ability to create and use pivot tables
