Exciting opportunities to work in our Swindon Radiotherapy Satellite Centre!

We are looking to recruit experienced, enthusiastic, compassionate, and highly motivated Band 5 Therapeutic Radiographers to join our friendly and welcoming professional team at theOUH Radiotherapy Centre @Swindon, a satellite of the Oxford Cancer Centre.

This purpose-built satellite unit in Swindon opened in October 2022 housing 2 Varian TrueBeam linacs with 6DoF couches and RGSC and a GoSim Radiotherapy CT scanner with in-room mould room facilities, all networked by ARIA to the Centre in Oxford. This satellite is an extension and expansion of the radiotherapy service at the Oxford Cancer Centre. It has its own clinic rooms, treatment planning suite, MacMillan patient information area, meeting rooms and good staff facilities in the satellite itself. It is located on the Great Western Hospital site where there is already a comprehensive Medical and Acute Oncology service. 5 Clinical Oncologists from Oxford, who cover all the of the major tumour types, hold outreach clinics in Great Western Hospital across the week. It is located very close to junction 15 of the M4.

Main duties of the job

Work as a member of the team of Radiographers covering all sections of the department including mould room, CT scanning, virtual simulation and contouring, delivery of a wide range of both simple and complex treatment and IGRT techniques

Liaising with the multidisciplinary team.

Assist with the day-to-day organisation of a treatment unit to ensure an efficient service is delivered and workload targets are achieved.

Supervise, support & teach junior members of staff and students.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential

• BSc (Hon) in Radiotherapy
• HCPC registered Therapeutic Radiographer
• Awareness of HCPC standard of conduct

Experience

Essential

• Recent experience of working clinically within radiotherapy

Desirable

• Experience in NHS
• Experience of paid employment either full or part time.
• Experience of using Varian equipment including linacs, virtual simulation and Eclipse treatment planning system.

Knowledge

Essential

• Core knowledge of a range of radiotherapy equipment and techniques together with the principles underlying them.
• A general understanding of computerised treatment planning systems.
• Core knowledge of the principles of radiotherapy treatment planning and radiation dosimetry as applied to radiotherapy treatments
• Core knowledge of a range of imaging equipment and principles underlying their use
• Detailed understanding of the disease process of malignant tumours.
• Understanding of Ionising Radiation Regulations and responsibilities relating to own professional practise
• Good anatomical knowledge

Desirable

• Knowledge of the department and Trust values and behaviours.
• Awareness of governance and its importance in maintaining safe practise.
• Knowledge of research and trails.
• Knowledge of risk management.
