We are looking for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist who is enthusiastic about working in the community setting. You should have some demonstrable experience of working within a rehabilitation or acute setting as well as an ability to independently carry an OT clinical caseload. You should also have some experience of working with a wider multi-disciplinary team. Your experience may have been developed as a student OT.

The occupational therapy service has an excellent Band 5 Occupational Therapist support program offering training and development meetings and continuing professional development activities, including preceptorship.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

In conjunction with other members of the team and with supervision, to contribute to the provision of a comprehensive patient-centered occupational therapy service to patients. Patients are referred primarily due to a physical disability, are aged 18 and over and are resident in the community. This includes patients who may present with physical, cognitive, psycho-social and housing needs as a result of a wide range of medical conditions.

To manage a defined caseload in a community setting. To evidence problem solving and clinical reasoning skills in line with evidence based/patient-centered principles. To assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.

To be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team, providing integrated goal-orientated interventions.

To develop a range of occupational therapy skills working with patients with a physical disability.

To contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of the service.

Job responsibilities

To assess for and diagnose any functional, physical, cognitive, perceptual and sensory deficits.

Based on the analysis of the assessment and a risk analysis, to determine occupational therapy aims and treatment goals, in collaboration with the client/family /carers.

To work closely with clients, their carers and families in agreeing decisions relevant to the clients management whilst respecting their individuality and diversity.

To implement client centred interventions, using the principles of graded activity and a range of treatment techniques.

To prescribe and coordinate intervention to be carried out by others, such as rehabilitation support workers or Trusted Assessors, and to train them to carry out the therapeutic programmes as appropriate to the home or community environment. See attached JD for details.
