We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated individual committed to delivering high-quality care to autistic people and their families.

SWLSTG Adult Autism Services includes an Autism Assessment Service and a newly commissioned Intensive Support Team (IST).

The Autism Assessment offers specialist assessment and diagnosis of Autism and post diagnostic support to those newly diagnosed in the service. The Autism Intensive Support team is a pilot program that will offer specialist assessment, therapeutic interventions, and consultation to individuals with complex needs, under the care of existing SWLSTG services. This service's outcomes will shape future provision in South West London.

Working closely with a Band 8a Clinical Service Lead, the post holder will spend their time working collaboratively alongside clinicians in both services. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to service development and improve health outcomes for autistic adults.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the senior clinicians within the service, the post holder will provide effective day-to-day management of the Adult Autism Service, accordance with the operational policy.

The Team Leader will co-ordinate the service and work with the clinicians and administrators to put into action the values of SWLSTG. The post holder will represent the services internally and externally, liaising with partner agencies such as the Local Authority teams and Primary Care.

There will opportunities to support service development, collaboratively establishing care pathways and methods of operation for the team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Responsible for the smooth and effective operational management and co-ordination of the service.

Enhance systems for the management of referrals are in place for each service, ensuring as fast and appropriate response to referrers is provided consistently, as well as short a waiting time from referral to treatment is achieved.

Ensure comprehensive liaison and feedback to GPs and other referrers.

Work in close partnership with all staff in the services to actively promoting team working.

Have regular co-ordination meetings with staff teams to ensure that the separate elements of team accountabilities are fully addressed with particular attention to risk management.

Hold full managerial responsibility for all individual service staff members (excluding the doctors) ensuring the various disciplines work within an agreed operational policy and providing support and consultation in the process.

Work closely with Consultant Psychiatrists in each service, to ensure that all medically qualified members of the team adhere to operational policies and fully engage in the multi-disciplinary process.

Manage and supervise the administrative functions of the team and support administrative staff of each service in conjunction with admin leads.

Ensure that all performance information identified as necessary is collected according to the timescale required.

In collaboration with the Clinical Service Lead, carry through all agreed procedures regarding staff disciplinary and sickness absence arrangements for Trust as appropriate to the level of the post. To work with other Managers and professional heads of discipline where required to process these issues.

Promote the Trusts Equal Opportunities strategy and implement procedures to further this process.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a health or social care leadership role
  • Experience of working with people who experience mental health problems
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of managing and supervising staff
  • Experience of contributing to policy and procedure development and implementation
  • Experience of working with autistic people
  • Experience of managing and monitoring budgets


Desirable

  • Project or change management experience
  • Experience of working in a mental health setting


Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in a health or social care discipline
  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development
  • Hold a valid Registration with a professional body (HCPC or NMC)


Desirable

  • Professional management qualification at diploma level or above
  • Project Management qualification e.g. PRINCE2 foundation level


Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Ability to deal with complex issues arising from managing a multidisciplinary service
  • Ability to work as an active member of the multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to effectively manage and lead staff
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding issues and child protection requirements/legislation and how these apply to the role
  • Ability to manage and deliver effective service redesign and change
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate familiarity with information technology in order to produce reports and statistics
