An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, well-motivated and flexible Occupational Therapist to join our team at St Benedicts Hospice and Centre for Specialist Palliative Care.

This role is based within St Benedicts Hospice in Sunderland.

The team consists of an extensive MDT which includes Consultants, Specialist Nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, Nurses, health care assistants, therapy assistant and administrative staff. The team also works closely alongside partner agencies including those from the local and voluntary sector.

Main duties of the job

This role would involve assessing palliative patients within the Hospice and their own homes who require enhanced intervention and short-term support for their physical and functional health needs to remain at home.

The service is committed to providing opportunities for education and training to support the successful candidate within this role. We would strongly recommend that you contact the Senior OT to find out more about the service and the breadth of skills you would develop within this role.

This post is suitable for qualified Occupational Therapists who have 2 years post registration experience.

Job responsibilities

  • To work as an Occupational Therapy practitioner to deliver assessment and intervention to those accessing specialist palliative care services at St Benedicts Hospice including the Hospice in-patient unit, day services and community.
  • To demonstrate agreed standards of care, based on best available evidence and sound clinical reasoning.
  • To develop his/her scope of professional practice in order to meet service requirements and on-going service development in accordance with professional guidelines.
  • To work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure practice is efficient, effective and evidence based.
  • To complete accurate, timely, concise documentation of patient records in line with Trust, professional and department standards
  • To work towards improving services through commitment to continued professional development relevant to the profession.
