An exciting opportunity has arisen in Health Innovation Manchester to work on our pioneering work using data to improve the health and care of people in Greater Manchester (GM) - working on the GM Secure Data Environment.

As the Senior Data Engineer working within the Secure Data Environment, you will be responsible for providing data engineering, modelling and evaluation support to programmes, using a range of engineering techniques, methods and a sound knowledge of the healthcare business. This role involves designing and leading the implementation of data flows, connecting operational systems, and providing support for analytics and Business Intelligence (BI) systems.

The post-holder will provide data engineering, modelling and evaluation support to programmes, using a range of engineering techniques, methods and a sound knowledge of the healthcare business. This role involves designing and leading the implementation of data flows, connecting operational systems, and providing support for analytics and Business Intelligence (BI) systems.

At this level the post holder will identify opportunities for the reuse of existing data flows, lead the development of data streaming systems, optimise code to ensure processes perform optimally, and take the lead in database management and the creation of customised data views for projects.

This position will support the Insight and Analytics Team, Programme Directors and Project Managers, the Digital Transformation Office, and the Secure Data Environment team and plays a crucial role in implementing large-scale innovation improvement programmes across Greater Manchester ensuring high-quality results across member organisations.

  • Educated to Master's level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in an informatics/health care data function.

  • A relevant qualification in information management

  • Extensive experience in data engineering within the healthcare sector, with a focus on NHS data systems.

  • Knowledge of NHS strategies, policies and plans
  • Good knowledge of Python for data engineering purposes

  • In-depth knowledge of data modelling, database design, and data warehousing principles.
