An exciting opportunity has arisen for a leader to lead the Adult Orthopaedic Surgical wards as a Band 8a Matron.
We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate nurse leader committed to the highest standards of care and patient experience, improvement and innovation.
The Matron , will lead a skilled nursing team alongside the MDT caring for patients undergoing a variety of Orthopaedic Surgery- large joint replacement surgery major complex spinal surgery including metastatic disease and surgery for Sarcoma .
This role is ideal if you have an interest and/or experience in surgical nursing, cancer care, or in caring for people with complex long term conditions. You will need initiative, energy, tenacity, imagination and empathy to fulfil this demanding role. You will be joining experienced and committed teams. As a specialist centre, we ensure that all our wards have good staffing levels our ward managers are supervisory to practice. You will be supported by the Senior Matron, the practice education team and professional nurse advocates.

The B8a Ward Matron is the leader of the nursing team and professional role model, mentor and coach for all its nursing staff having a leading role in ensuring adequate provision of specialist nursing for patients across the wards and integration of the MDTs during the patient's journey through the service:
24-hour responsibility for overseeing expert nursing practise and care delivery and facilitate the strategic development of designated wards.

- Will be a highly visible autonomous practitioner who is a proactive leader, acts as a clinical resource and ensures the sustainable delivery of high standards of nursing care.
- Responsibility for exploring current practise, identifying areas for development and planning the appropriate change strategy utilising the most up to date evidence based practises and use the appropriate evaluation tools to monitor the outcomes
- Responsible for the quality of the patient's environment and lead on facilitating changes that improve the patient experience.
- Responsible for co-ordinating and making effective use of staff, facilitate with the clinical nurse educators a program to supervise staff and ensure adequate provision of specialist training is maintained.
- Oversee the management of the wards resources effectively and efficiently, participate in budget setting and manage the delegated budget accordingly.
- Integrate with the MDT to facilitate admissions and discharges of patients under the care of the Consultants/specialist
